How do I extort maximum compo before or after court ?

Options
My old energy supplier has sent me a final bill with a higher meter reading than what my new supplier has (confirmed). Both suppliers know about this however the old one still send me demands. The actual amount owed is fractional. How can I manipulate this situation so that I can get the maximum compo out of both of them and is the written evidence of start meter reading sent by the new supplier sufficient for my court defence?

Who supplied the actual final reading for your old supplier ?

Who supplied the actual start reading for your new supplier ?

Why would your new supplier be at fault ?

I presume you are aware that extortion is a crime.
The actual amount owed is fractional.
    So why bother?

On what basis are you planning to launch a civil action against your old supplier, since you haven't suffered any loss?
Following on logically from that, on what basis would any compensation be due to you?

I'd pretty much agree with Keystone - courts do not help people "extort" money from anyone. You may get a nominal goodwill gesture offered from the old supplier if you are lucky - if you do snap their hands off - you will get & are obviously entitled to nothing from your new supplier unless your claiming that they gave the old supplier this wrong reading.
  • No thanks to forumite respondents. My new supplier coughed as I decided to go the extra mile with a final email to it thus my old supplier won't be summoning me for a day in court. Perhaps MSE'rs can have a think for next time in about 4 months.

OP - do you make a living out of compensation claims....?

Admitting that would make me tax liable under badges of trade.
