Hi all

Wonder what tyres would people put on a 60 plate megane. It does about 8,000 miles a year and currently has the original Goodyear ont he front and awful Autogrip on the rear (replaced by dealer!!)

Lookign at Barums or would you still on Autogrips?

How much do you want to spend?

I always aim to go for OEM or a similar brand rather than the cheaper chinese brand ones - if you find the autogrip ones awful then why look to replace them with the same?

I have always liked Continentals but you will only get about 12,000 miles out of a set on the front, this doesn't bother me though.

We currently have Uniroyal Rainsports on my wifes car and these seem like decent mid range tyres for an okay price.

You dont say what you want,

Value for Money, Comfort, cheapest tyres for the short term etc?
  • All i would really like are tyres that are safe but value for money. Dont have a lot of spare cash with the arrival of my daughter a couple of weeks ago but would like to feel safe and havent read anything good about Autogrips in the rain

Does it have a full size spare? If it does and the spare is a Goodyear then why not put that on then buy another Goodyear to match and put one of the Autogrip in the boot as an emergency?

No point buying 2 new tyres if you have a perfectly good one in the boot...
  • have you experienced anthing bad about the autogrip tyres or are you just going by what you read on internet ?

Alarm bells should be ringing as to why it has already had 2x new tyres on the back already.
  • By safe i assume you mean wet grip, anything that is black and round will grip OK in the dry.

You will struggle to beat Uniroyal Rain Expert or Rainsport for the best wet grip, certainly anywhere near the price, depends on size and profile which one the Sports usually come in lower profile sizes.

Best prices for these are normally found on Camskills.

Before the OP gets too excited by Camskill's prices (the best prices for most tyres are often found on Camskill aren't they?), note that Camskill only supply the tyres, not fitting. So you'll need to add the cost of fitting at your favourite tyre place.

Doesn't mean Camskill won't still be a good price, but you need to compare apples with apples.

I assumed the OP would have realised that.

Now you mention it though, OP if you have a browse on Mytres as well they have a fitting shop search function, Camskills should have added this to their site by now.

I assume you don't have a good local indy tyre shop or you wouldn't be asking here.
  • If you are in the South west send me a message as I can get tyres at cost + £1 from one of my clients on the docks that make / ship / sell to the trade here in the uk
