Anyone else struggling to start planning their wedding?

I got engaged to my OH last November and we have done nothing with regards to actually sorting out the wedding.

I'm the furthest away from a bridezilla you could get. I'm just not that bothered by it!!

I want to marry him, and we're getting married before we have kids, but i just can't be bothered to actually plan the wedding!!

How do you do it?!

I'm considering entering 'don't tell the bride' so that i get out of having to do anything!!

  • I wouldn't consider myself any sort of expert but maybe once you get the ball rolling you'll be more motivated?

One of my colleagues at work got engaged and I was suprised by how quickly she started organising everything. Within a couple of weeks she was pencilling in a date and figuring out the wording on the invitations. She's now done so much that she's getting a little impatient for the big day itself.

I couldn't imagine myself being so keen but I think once I'd got the motivation to start looking at venues I'd probably be spurred on to do the rest.

I hope your wedding goes well, congratulations

I've looked at venues, I know where we will have the wedding and the reception.

How do you pick a date!? Just pluck one out the air?

I've even sat down and started to make lists of what needs to be done, and then just not done anything about it... Maybe we'll just stay engaged for ever!

  • First of all sit down with your OH to discuss when you would like to get married.

    Decide;
    1. What time of year do you want it? e.g. a winter wedding or a summer wedding etc (Summer is the most expensive time)
    2. What day of the week do you want it? (Saturdays are the most expensive day.)

Once you've decided on that, they you can look around venues and establish what kind of budget you'll need for the wedding.

For me and my OH, we needed to get married in the school hols as I'm a teacher so therefore for us it was either going to be October or June (we didn't want Feb as it was too close to Valentine's Day, didn't want December as it was too close to Christmas and I didn't want August as I have too many birthdays to buy for in that month!)

In the end we opted for June and then found out it was the double bank holiday when we were looking around a venue which kinda sold it for us as it was ideal.

I must admit, I haven't been the best with regards to planning the wedding and I've only just sorted out the hotel for me and my side of the family to stop in (OH sorted his out in July!)

Anyways, hope this helps a bit. Just remember, once you've got a date, you've got something to work towards and that will spurr you on.

    Thank you :)

It would need to be a summer wedding as our reception is going to be outdoors. But OH is a farmer so early summer as no one would be able to come if it was the height of the season!!

I've decided already it won't be a saturday, just need to pick at date!

  • You're halfway there then bramble :)

Do you or your OH have any favourite/lucky numbers? Or what date did you both get together?

no lucky numbers, got together on feb 15th - thats a definite no no!! might just put some numbers in a hat and then months and pull out one of each...maybe i'll do the whole planning of the wedding that way!

It's how we make most of our decisions!

  • How about the 15th as a date?

The summer months are traditionally June, July and August, but I presume they'd be busy for your OH.

How about the 15th May? (15th cos you got together then, and 15 months after Feb is May.)

Random, but it could work if you didn't fancy drawing it out of a hat.

    15.05.12 - Tues
    15.05.13 - Wed
    15.05.14 - Thurs

I'm working with May but I don't actually know if your OH can do that...

Good idea :) June could work, but would just mean no honeymoon till winter! Our reception is really outdoors so want a month that isn't likely to be pouring it down!

It took us a year and a half to get going... we booked our venue in June after being engaged for 1 1/2 years!!!
Then, we've done a few bits, but we really need a kick up the bum to sort things!!! Haha!
