arrggh - rant about the mysteries of stove shopping

Calculation the size of stove is fairly straightforward based on the room size (as has been mentioned), after determining the size, next choice is the design/type and price range.
From experience, be cautious about these calculators. They make a lot of assumptions which, certainly in the case of old buildings I have owned, are sometimes woefully unjustified.0 -
do the calculation then add on 2kws0

thanks again peeps - i am reading and taking all advice on board.
one of the reasons i could never consider self installing and needed the specialist advice from the stove shop is my current fireplace opening is tiny - 16" high and 12" wide so that will need a builder to open it up ans as for flues i have no idea whether the iinside of the chimney is in good nick so need someone to look at that as well.
thats the trouble i was having in the shop - i don't know how far the chimney will open up, if my current hearth is suitable, or anything about the technical stuff.
so to ask me what i want before i know what i can actually have just seemed a bit frustrating (I.m fairly sure it was frustrating for them too!)0
