see speedup sticky regarding disabling ctfmon and java quick starter

uninstall ask toolbar, avira, pctools firewall, o&O defrag, talk talk supportsoft, delete c:\windows\tasks\google update task, pctools pc connectivity

install cleanmem, avast free, enable windows firewall

tick and fix all the O16 lines in hijackthis

if you've installed the 14 day trial of malwarebytes, I'd scan with it, then uninstall and install the free one, as the resident one will be using resources constantly. Simililarly you could disable the macrium services using services.msc after you have done a backup and created a macrium boot cd.

reboot, post commit and fresh hijack

If I delete pctools firewall what do I do about a firewall is there one in windows xp.

Are you saying delete Avira and install Avast instead, if so why? I thought Avira was considered to be one of the best.

    Thanks for your help.

there is one in xp, in control panel. are you using a router or a usb modem?

avast is lighter on ram, faster, but you can stick with avira if you prefer.

c:\windows\tasks - there should be a google update task, delete it.

nokia pc connectivity should appear in add/remove programs

reboot, post commit and hijack when you've finished all the suggestions

    do you use bluetooth

keep asking for commit charge after a reboot.

    router or modem?

using msconfig, stop these running at startup, they can be run manually if needed

disable error reporting - see speedup sticky

talk talk, google update is still there

I take it you want to keep avira and nokia bloat, and leave macrium services running?

service pack is out of date, should be sp3, run windows update

you have a proxy server entry, Ie, tools, internet options, connections, set to 127.0.0.1, usually a sign of a past infection?

    any faster yet?
