  • Yum in Stranmillis (not far from Queens) is a newish restaurant. Does exactly what it says on the tin. So much choice, so yum, and they do early bird menu too.

Jharna on the Lisburn Road (also not far from Queens) is lovely if you like your Indian food.

Scalini's on Botanic is still the best Italian I've found - although, have to agree, has been disappointing last few visits. Speranza's was absolutely revolting the first (and last) time I ate there - and can't vouch for Goodfellas either. Are there any decent restaurants in the west? (I live in hope)

Vincents is great - and the BYO is great too - although think it's just wine..

Was at Gingers last night and it was fantastic - although if you don't like fish you may find the menu a little limited.

    Hope you enjoy yourself!

Yeah it sounds like it was either there or possibly Speranza at Shaftesbury Square

Just walked past Cafe Milano today, and it has been replaced with a restaurant called the Fat Buddha

Wrapworks and Indie Spice are both pretty good..

For chinese, try the Red Panda in the Odyssey, although the Odyssey seems to cater for almost any tastes in general...

I also love the Apartment in the city centre - and great cocktails
  • You should try Byblos on Amelia street (right across from the Europa) they serve Lebanese food there. Its just wonderful and very well priced.

Been to Goodfellas a few times with friends. Downsides were lack of booking, large amounts of kids and very smokey. Potential upsides were huge portions (if you have a big appetite) and reasonable prices. Food itself not exceptional but fine for price etc.
  • Best place in Belfast.. Vila Italia at the bottom of the malone road. cheap as chips and the food is delicious! Ive been going here for years now and i have never had a bad experience or a bad meal.

I went with 3 friends and we had 3 courses and a bottle of Magners each and it came to less than £20 each!! You have to get there early though because they dont take bookings. Although i have never waited more than about 20 minutes....

My top restaurant is James Street South off Bedford Street - pricey but worth it and miles better than the overrated Deanes which has never impressed me.

Beatrice Kennedy's is lovely too and i've heard it's byob at the minute.

For Italian i'm never disappointed by Pizza Express

If you like Chinese "the WOK" is good on Great Victoria Sreet. If you want to follow up earlier recs for Cayenne, note that they take Tesco clubcard vouchers. £10 for £2.50 voucher. They accept the vouchers at all Rankin's outlets. Have not been to any myself. There is a downloadable pdf for Belfast eateries here:

Have a good one. Just noticed that one of Rankin's joints is detailed in restaurant of the week.

Heard loads of bad reports about James Street South - food allegedly average and staff who are just so far up their own ar*es....
