Hi all,
Off to Belfast in early May and well pure and simple I'm looking for some really nice restaurants to dine in. I'm there for three days with my partner.
I recall a lovely Italian that is spread on around 5 floors being lovely, on the way to the uni but can't remember it's name?
Many thanks

Was it Villa Italia? Its kinda nice... as is Scalini's... Veeeery nice, actually.... Ur making me hungry now!
I've also heard great reports about Goodfella's, over in the west of the city, but have never eaten there. I personally love the two mentioned above.0 -
Scalini's has gone seriously downhill recently. Last 3 times in it have been very poor and know someone else who went on Saturday night and was very disappointed.0

L'Etoile on the Ormeau Road is a lovely little French place and it's byob which lowers the cost significantly
Tao on the Dublin Road is a Chinese/Thai noodle bar and it's fantastic, 3 of us ate there and it was only £35 for starters, main courses and soft drinks (another byob)
The Cathedral Quarter has some really brilliant restaurants like Nicks Warehouse and Hill Street Brasserie on Hill Street and The Spaniard across the road but they're pricier. They'd be perfect if you wanted to splash out for one night. My Doctor told me that "1 out of 3 people who start smoking will eventually die." The other two apparently became immortal.

Goodfellas is an excellent restaurant, I eat there often but as mentioned is in the west so not handy to the city centre.
Tony Romas is also nice if you like the American theme.

I used to eat regularly in a place called Ginger on the ormeau road it closed down, i think due to the chef/proprietor being ill (cancer) i notice there is a new place called Ginger just off Great Victoria Street...about a hundred yards up from the BBC todard Queens tucked in behind that god awful trendy clothes/hair place. If its the same gaff as the original Ginger then give it a go. His cooking never failed to amaze me.
Secondly, try the basement bistro in Belfast castle. lovely setting and a slightly eccentric head waiter. Again great food and not as expensive as people always used to make out.

I always found Conor's in Stranmillis very good, pretty reasonable prices also.0

Is not great for food but just for the sheer spectacle I would try the cafe vaudeville The Northern Whig is also a great place to pass the time as is the apartment if you want to watch the city centre pass by. The Morning Star is a cool if you are looking for something a little different.
In truth there are loads of places in and around Belfast that I am sure you would love, check out this site for a taster0 -

Was it cafe milano on the Lisburn Road??0 -
Deanes Deli on Bedford Street is great. It's one of Michel Deane's franchise so it is top level cooking but at lower prices. Still not cheap but I'd rather eat there once than twice elsewhere. Staff are lovely as well

Vincents and Cafe Renoir on Botanic Avenue both offer bring your own wine for a corkage fee which can make quite a difference to the bill. Vincents food is good, Renoir is a bit patchier although good if you get it on the right day.
If you're going to be here over a weekend be sure and book ahead or you might not get a table.
Also if you fancy a plush dining experience, it's worth trying Cayenne (Paul Rankin's headline place) on Shaftesbury Square - if you go for the vegetarian menu it's a lot cheaper and you get the ambiance. He also has another place called Rain City which is at the bottom of the Malone Road, good food at lower prices.0
