The best food place to come to Belfast has to be the Mourne Seafood bar beside Kelly's Cellars. I was in Belfast for Christmas. I had meals in 3 places.
    1. Bourbon - Great Victoria St. - Service was the best ever, food was good and prices ok. I've had friends that were disappointed here in the past.
    2. Villia Itiallia (as above) - operates like a factory but ok.
    3. Mourne Seafood bar, The staff were very helpful, knew their product and the wine to accompany the food. Never experienced this service at home before.

Cafe Milano is now closed and looks like it's turned to an oriental restaurant of sorts.

Bourbon really is in my bad books with regards very poor service and bad value for money on more than one occasion.

I would recommend Cayenne (they do a "Beat the Clock" that's great value), Deane's Deli as mentioned above and also Harbour View if you fancy a bit of Teppanyaki near the Waterfront Hall.

All the above are a little on the pricey side but well worth it!
Life in this world is, as it were, a sojourn in a cave. What can we know of reality? For all we can see of the true nature of existence is, shall we say, no more than bewildering and amusing shadows cast upon the inner wall of the cave by the unseen blinding light of absolute truth, from which we may or may not deduce some glimmer of veracity, and we as troglodyte seekers of wisdom can only lift our voices to the unseen and say humbly "Go on, do deformed rabbit again.....it's my favourite". © Terry Pratchett in "Small Gods"

The Indie Spice cafe was wonderful.
I also thought Bourbon was terrible the one time we went. Even though it was before the lunch rush and there was only one other couple eating there at the time, they put us right beside them. It was really embarassing. I never went back.

  • ginger is excellent. if you get as far as Bangor go to Coyles in High street great
  • always enjoy Darcys just off shaftesbury square they do 2 courses for about 11 quid on their early bird, also Mourne seafood behind kelley's cellars is excellent. service and meals can be hit or miss in many of the bigger restaurants i find. anyways enjoy your stay and pop into The Crown for a great creamy pint of Guinness, then next door for some great wee free entertainment every night in Robinsons back bar[Fibber Magees]
  • I agree with above, the bigger and very commercial places are hit and miss. Better food and value in smaller more authentic places.
There is a new Deane's Deli (Deanes at Queens) on University Road at the corner of College Gardens, they do brilliant deli platters to share.
Best chinese in the city is Macau on Ormeau Road. Doesn't look v exciting from outside but the food is superb.
Mourne Seafood Bar is best newish place.
Aldens on Newtownards Road is more upmarket romantic venue, also very good.
All are in or near city centre except Aldens (short drive away).
    Enjoy!

It's funny I had a terrible meal in Deane's Deli and they were snotty and unapologetic about it. Not somewhere I could ever face going back to.

Wrapworks on the Lisbrun Road is great for lunch but has gone a wee bit down hill on it's dinner menu.

Zen on Adelaide Street (behind Belfast City Hall) is a superb Japanese restaurant.

Great food, very different from most other restaurants in Belfast, stylish decor and fantastic cocktails.

A little pricey but not overpriced by any means. I've been many times and every experience was excellent.

    I'd advise you to book.
