Hub MK - I left details now v worried!

Hi

I have just spent ages reading on forums about private parking scans but am still a bit worried.

My partner and I went for a bite to eat in the restaurant quarter of milyon Keynes called the hub. We took my car and he drove. Normally park in the council manned area which is free after 6pm. Because I am recovering from a broken hip and on crutches he parked a bit closer. there were signs up but no lights and it was impossible to read them - and like the rest of mk we assumed was free after 6pm. anyway we came back an hour later and found out you were supposed to pay a pound within ten minutes but my OH said don't bother so we drove off - then I got worried so I rang and it said leave name and number and reg details and we will call back in 5 hours to collect payment. They didn't (this was a sat eve). I'm now very worried partly because I was stupid to
Leave my details - and now fear lots of threatening letters in the post and threats of court action??!!! :(

Perhaps you should have listened to your husband (men are correct from time to time)
all you can do is wait and see if anything further transpires.
That said, couldn't he have dropped you nearer the restaurant and then park where he knows it's free, then the opposite sequence after you have finished your evening out?

Why should you be worried about "threatening letters in the post and threats of court action"? They are just hollow and meaningless threats. Treat them as you would any other junk mail.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?
  • Yep - that was the sensible thing to do and what i suggested in the first place. I was unhappy with leaving the car there at all but he said it would be ok. When I started worrying he rang the number and then saidhe wasn't leaving his credit card details. I rang and it asked for registration details so I did. How stupid am I :( everything I've read says ignore it but since I rang up I have shot myself in the foot haven't I!!

No you haven't! From now on just ignore them. They won't take you to court because they know they won't win.

Could you tell us the name of the parking company please.

  • That's the problem - it didn't even say what the company was but this is the number I rang : 0115 8225027. If you google it it comes up with a thread on consumer forums about civil enforcement http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?97586-Civil-Enforcement-Ltd-(again!)&p=2594416&viewfull=1. Someone has copied the notice - I rang the 0115 number - when I did it said on an automated thing ' someone will call in 5 hours to collect payment'

So the company is Civil Enforcement who can easily be ignored. Don't be put off by that official sounding name. They are just a powerless private parking company.

Please listen to everyone; just ignore Civil Enforcement. Maybe you will hear nothing or maybe they will start to send letters.

Their letter-chain of threats can be seen on the top thread, please look at the letters now. Also I think CEL have been using a different final letter recently which encloses FAKE Court paperwork. Note the word FAKE.

Read some of the other CEL threads on the forum once you have checked out the top thread of letters. There are at least 2 threads recently that mention CEL's new letter and where the posters are planning to report the misleading Court threat to Trading Standards.

One final thing - if all it takes to generate a series of letter threats from CEL is to phone a number and leave 'any' car reg & name/address, then anyone could use an anonymous phone and leave someone else's name/address & car registration. Even that of another PPC/clamper; a PPC owner if car reg known, or even - to get CEL in trouble - a local Judge (I know one round here so it's not unheard of to have the info). ;)
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Yes ignore totally. They will even try and scare you with blank country court forms. It's just part of the scam!!

Even if they did, they have no basis in law.
