Virgin broadband worse than it was in my old flat - any ideas?

The VM community forum is flooded with threads complaining about congestion. My own area has gone to pot. If I could get Infinity I'd bale out right now but that isn't scheduled until the end of 2012 and as the phone line had a fault on it I really don't want to risk ADSL unless VM gets completely unusable from home. In the meantime I downgraded to 10Mbps as that was about all I could get a lot of the time on 50Mbps.0

I've been having the same problem in Cambridge. I'm locked into Virgin at my flat (we can't change to a different provider), and when my BB was first connected I had great 10Mbps all the time. But now my connection can only peak at 2.4Mbps which is too slow for iPlayer HD, and not really quick enough for me and my girlfriend to watch youtube separately or something.
I tried the forums but haven't had much response beyond a 'Please send me a PM' message from one of the moderators (no reply in days though).
Not sure my area is over subscribed, because no matter the time or day speedtest.net shows I get 2.37Mbps (+/- 0.05Mbps) download but 1.3Mbps upload.
Do you recon its possible to demand a reduction in line rental due to the low speed? Well, I guess I can already answer that, but I'll post here if I get anywhere.0 -
+1 on everything kwikbreaks has said on this thread. I'm on 50Mb (and a techie) and having exactly the same troubles too.
You might also want to check out thinkbroadband.com/ping that'll give you an easy way to profile your network quality throughout the day, see if there are specific times that cause problems or if its just random.0
