Contract that includes texts to Russia

Having finally been insulted by CPW, could not give a damn for the scummy customers lack of care, for the last time I am on the look out for a new contract. (Currently CPW 02)

What I would like is a contract that either has free or at least cheap texts to the Russian Federation (Greater Moscow area really)

Does anyone know of such a beast my searching so far has drawn a blank.
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

Nope. There is no such thing, as it is an international destination and texts will not form part of any inclusive bumdle. It'll just be the usual rate for an international text, irrespective of the country it is delivered to. Far better to use a web based text service, in the country where the text is to be delivered.

If you don't have access to any web-based applications, icardmobile offer SMS to Russia for 9p each. Is this cheaper than you've found?

Skype charges 4.3p for SMS to Russia. You can register your own mobile number with Skype so that outgoing texts appear to come from your normal mobile number. If you want to send texts from your mobile, it doesn't appear that Skype's mobile apps can send SMS (at least the iPhone app can't), so you'll have to use the standard PC application. At least replies will come back to your mobile though, unlike other third party services.

You are right they don't not even on Android, which is part of the problem I would like to and will continue to send text messages from my mobile just looking for the cheapest way of doing that.

If Skype worked on the mobile version no contest.

I don't quite understand what you mean, but it is you who needs a phone with Skype. SMSs will be delivered to any phone.

BTW, it is worth mentioning that if they have a roaming UK sim, it costs nothing to receive texts and the texts you send come from your allowance.

I mean the Android app for Skype does not have a facility to send SMS, IM yes not SMS. This is ok if they are at a computer but not for mobile to nobile contact.

They are Russian and use a Russian sim not sure making them use a UK sim would be very helpful too them :)

There is I think some convelouted method through Skype and redirection but was rather hoping that at least one of our mighty mobile companies had a world text deal that was, if not free, at least cheaper than the 17p a text I pay now (02 CPW offered several pounds a month bolt on which reduced the text price to 15p!) most seem to focus on calls but calls can be done through Skype even using the app.

Can you not use a browser to go to the website directly, without the app?

Yes, this works only with two phones on each side.

I never noticed that the iPhone application didn't allow you to send texts.

Anyway, if you both have iPhones then you can iMessage for free?

Thanks for this but sadly, as with a lot of them, Russia not one of the included countries.
