New sickness rules for gps?

Yet the government set a target for hospitals yesterday of seeing patients within 18 weeks. That means you could be judged as "fit" after 4 and treated by the same system 14 weeks later who accept you need treatment. Madness!0

Hi , Just thought some of you maybe interested in this report, I dont know if many or any of you saw the BBC 1 news at 7 this morning but they were talking about the new rules with DLA sickness benefits , (I caught some of this report as the dog barked so I didnt hear all of it ,) they had a Doctor (gp) on there who said that some of the new rules are coming in already, to do with medicals ..... ... ........
Doctor went on to say that they are looking closely into people who claim sickness for back pain and mental health issues, because thats where they think people are being paid for sickness when they shouldnt be able to claim for.........Doctor also went on to say that your gp can say that you are not fit for work ,but DWP can over ride their decision........
Perhaps someone can put the link up for the news prog, im not very good with puters..!!.I do think that a lot will change with sickness benefits and who gets it, the goverment is out to get people back to work and not spend a life time on benefits........and they dont seem to think people with mental health problems should be on the sick list.......We wait and see............
Just one point DLA isnt a sickness benefit0 -
Everything that all the people in the thread have said about their own GP being the only person who knows them and therefore the best person to understand and diagnose .. .. is precisely why the Government want the personal GP out of the picture.
MED3/5's changed over a year [ Statement of Fitness for Work ] ago in readiness for just this circumstance. At that time the GP accepted these changes :
- the introduction of a new option – "May be fit for work taking account of the following advice".
- they were no longer be asked to issue statements stating someone is fit for work.
- they had Increased space for comments on the functional effects of their patient’s condition with tick boxes ;
- - - to indicate simple adjustments or adaptations
- - - that could aid their return to work.
- telephone consultations as an acceptable form of assessment.
- the maximum duration of statement during the first 6 months was reduced from 6 to 3 months
- the two [ 3 & 5 ] were combined into one form
Interesting that previous wording and practices were changed at that time.
- assessment replaced consultation
- face to face became telephone assessment
- and a GP without seeing the patient could accept a report from another doctor or healthcare professional
At that time GP's were also given a lecture on the Governments view that - evidence shows that work has therapeutic value and is generally good for physical and mental health and well-being whilst long term worklessness has negative health effects (Waddell G. and Burton A.K. 2006.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. In future the opinion of your GP or consultant will be worthless. ONLY the word of the DWP / ATOS must be obeyed. Government set your own house in order before constantly attacking others.
Pity they have nothing more constructive to do with their time.0 -
Some of the news on BBC1 at 6 showed a bit of the report where they interviewed a girl about 25 yrs old with MS, she is working full time and said that she didnt want to sit at home all day and would rather be working..............She is far too well to sit at home all day, and she is working like she should be......
Well all I can say about that report was that she looked very well using both her hands and walking very well, dont need a wheelchair , and dressed very smartly for her office job , a lot of people with MS are wheelchair bound and very ill with it , I would say that a lot of people with MS very mildly would also work, I know 2 people with MS and they definately couldnt go to work it , that interview was a bit biased...........0 -
It makes an even bigger mockery of the plans to give GP's multi million pounds budgets, how can they be trusted as they are such "pushovers" without the common sense to see a malinger sat on from of them?0

Imstead I will see a stranger, probably woth a suspect computer package that only accepts pre-programmed responses. They will decide inside 30 minutes whether or not I am fit for work...
And even if I am declared 'unfit' then 6 months later I need a new fit-note and have to see the assessor again. Want a bet that it will be a totally different assessor? Nit the one I saw last time, but someone else who has never seen me but will magically discern my mental and physocal stae just be looking at me.
Maybe, to help the assessor, they will be given access to my medical records...written by the totally untrustworthy GP and specialist who are not competent to sign my fit-note!
So GPs are deemed too incompetent to do this but competent when it comes to them being given more power when in charge of each independent surgery"s finances.0
