It most certainly is NOT illegal! Can be dangerous though in the wrong circumstances.I think that you will find that it is not only illegal to coast downhill, but also quite dangerous.
OP, don't know how often you reset your MPG trip, but do you think there's any chance your MPG has shot down because your car has been shifted around in the garages car park, stopped and started, sitting running for a long time doing zero mpg, or taken out for a drive?0 -
I'll second the "work out your MPG yourself" crowd...its really useful for budgeting and helpful for remembering eco-driving techniques. I manage 68-72MPG out of our ancient vauxhall diesel 1.5l, my partner who is a very new (but very conscious of fuel) driver gets around 65mpg. Trust your own calculations, not the computer!

The ambient temperature of outdoors is dropping because of winter, so your car will take longer to heat up. The effect this has on your fuel consumption will be amplified in your particular circumstances. Because of the short journeys you make - the small amount of miles you do will be done when the car is heating up.
It's first service will simply be an oil and filter change and a few visual checks however the 1.6tdi common rail engine is quite new, and as such their may have been an ECU update for it. It is unlikely this would cause the car to use more fuel though.0 -
i am very near end of my tank and the fuel is looking pretty much as normal. they must have just done some kind of update to the computer.£18 for my old mobile.
