o2 being tight with I phones

Went on-line yesterday to see if I could upgrade to an I-phone 4s early (2 months early) I have done 22 months of my contract with them.

The website said go to the shop. The shop said, no early upgrades for existing customers, you have to wait until your contract runs out.

A friend at work went to o2 as a new customer to get a 4s. She was told she could not have one either.

Seems to a get an i-phone 4s with o2, you have to be an existing customer who's contract has run out...

Unless you know different??

So, why is this anything new? Early upgrades are always at the discression of the company. If you had offered to pay off the 2 months you owned and got a new contract they would have let you have a phone jsut like a new customer.

You'll not get any offers on an early upgrade, as they know you can only leave by paying a fee, best wait a month or two request your PAC and see what they offer, however you are unlikely to get any great deals on an iPhone.

I did not want any offer. I was willing to pay off the old contract, but they won't let anyone do that either.
Also like I said. New customers can't get one either, they are saying existing customers only. Existing---- being obviously those who have o2 and the contract has naturally expired.

I could leave and go with another network, but sadly o2 is the only network that has any signal at my house

i went online to o2 a couple weeks ago to ask how i cancel my contract. it comes to an end at the end of this month.

they put me through to retentions who asked why i was leaving. i said i wanted an iphone 4s and was going to go with tesco on a 1 month deal as it was a really good price. they said they would see what the could do.

after a lot of haggling and being offered some ridiculously bad deals the bloke came back and offered me a £37 a month contract for 12 months, this gave me 500 min (should have only been 300), unlimited texts, 500gb data, unlimited wifi and 20 mms. the phone should have cost £299 but he let me have it for £166.

I calculate that to be £610 for the whold package over the year which is the best i have seen.

I now want an iphone 4s on a good deal, (first was for my partner), went online using the chat button, got told i would have to go in store. Phones up my local store who said that all they would be able to offer me is the dtandard prices you see. They are not alous to deviate away from the standard prices. the whole thing has to be uniform.

I told her about the deal i had got only a few weeks back and gave her my order number so she could look it up. she was amazed and said she wouldn't even get a deal like that. she said whover gave me that deal shouldnt off as they have all been told to stick to the same prices.

  • o2 ime are not interested in cs, retaining customers or doing anything vaguely helpful. DH was with them for years on iphone contracts. He came to the end of his last one, they wouldn't offer him any deals whatsoever, still wanted him to pay full price for any phone he had regardless of what it was and pay full price for the contract as if he was a new customer. When he informed o2 that he wanted to cancel they were happy to and didn't make any attempt to keep him. He managed to get a good deal from 3 and their signal is a lot better than o2s, he very rarely loses 3g signal whereas with o2 it was rare that he had it, plus their unlimited data is truly unlimited (Not yet had to use their call centre!) FIL has also been with o2 for years (from when they were BTcellnet), he's only ever had 2 upgrades in that time and is still paying over £30 a month. They refuse point blank to give him any better.

I however am with Orange as are most of my friends, they upgrade early every time, give you whatever phone you want at pretty much whatever price you want. I got an htc desire free at £12.25 a month. I've got friends who upgraded to iphone4 for free from a normal phone and only paying just over £20 a month contract. Also one of DHs friends was upgrading to a 4 or 4s, but they'd run out and were taking longer than expected to get more in stock, so they contacted him to inform him that they would upgrade him free of charge from a 16gb to a 32gb.

The only thing I can suggest is end your contract and go elsewhere. o2 clearly don't care about their customers so I wouldn't use them.

The "issue" is that many many people don't go over there monthly bill so don't make much per month for the company. Customer spend drives retentions, if they only make a little from you then why bother offering you a great deal.

Look at the boards. Currently Vodafone is the one getting the slating for bad customer service, but all network have been there at one point or another. They all know that for every customer that leaves them, they'll get a disgruntled customer for another network, churn is around 1.5 to 2% of people moving networks and is a constant.

Gone of the days of loyalty bonus's for staying with a set network, it's now purely down to how much you earn for them each month.

Pity that the only coverage I get is 02 though.

  • Hey!

You guys might be interested in my post from the "02 Retentions thread 2" Post 4522. Unfortunately, I can't post the link as I'm a new user.

I've got 6 weeks on my 24 month contract remaining but managed to get some good deals on the Iphone 4S. I had to go through O2 retentions though.

    Good luck
