Just a quick question does it have to be a white dress or would i get away with ivory,my daughter will be a bridesmaid two weeks before her communion and i was kinda hoping she could wear the same dress for both occasions.

My daughter is making hers this year and according to the literature we have been given it has to be white - it may be different in your area though :)
• definitely try ebay us.

bought mine 2 years ago as couldn't find one in the shops i liked.

cost about £30 incl. shipping and is lovely, my other daughter is wearing it this year.
now mum of 4!!!

When I made mine, the girls wore the lovely white dresses and we wore the red tie on a white shirt with black trousers. I personally feel sad to see parishes do it in 'own clothes', they don't have permission from the Vatican to do that, so the priest obviously isn't too well versed in basic Canon Law... :naughty:

There is another thread here discussing Holy Communion dresses. Hope you and your family have a wonderful day :D
• Aw, thanks for this thread. It brought back lovely memories of my own FHC - floor length white dress made by my mum (my sister wore it later) and a veil.

I'd definitely give eBay a go - and try Primark for cheap shoes.

Have a great day.
 What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about?

• I thought I would resurrect this thread to let you know I got this dress http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-WHITE-RHINESTONE-COMMUNION-
FLOWER-GIRL-DRESS-SZ-2_W0QQitemZ130090085187QQcategoryZ105486QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem"]
for my daughter and it is fabulous! It worked out at £35 including the postage which compared to what other parents at her school are paying is an absolute bargain.

I also got a triple layer underskirt for a tenner and shoes for £8 (also off ebay, brand new too!)

So for just over £50 for the lot and she looks amazing!

So if anyone is still looking for their daughter and is worried about the quality off ebay (I was) then don't, you will be delighted with your bargains! :)

BHS have been doing beautiful white dresses very simple, floaty look lovely with a veil or circlet of white flowers. Our church are encouraging parents to steer clear of the lacey huge meringue dresses as quite a few children are refugees and parents don't have the disposable income to deck out the girls the boys just wear a nice shirt and tie.

Try Ireland - bit extreme I know, but plenty of free day trip tickets available from either Holyhead or Pembroke (if you're the right side of the country) or if you know anyone that's going on holiday. I think they have a "set" holy communion day in Ireland and the shops are full of dresses before that day, after that day they sell them off really (and I mean really) cheaply. When my daughter was "done" it was after the Irish day and my mother-in-law got her the most wonderful dress for next to nothing.

I second one of the previous replies about veils - I haven't seen a girl wear a veil in our church for years and our priest is still quite strict about most things. As regards shoes, my little girl had a pair of white sandals that she wore for the whole summer after.

for some reason i read "iceland" and for the whole post couldn't work out if you meant the country (although how holyhead or pembroke are the right side of the country for this i couldn't fathom...) or the frozen food shop....:rotfl:
