Compensation on Dry Cleaning

My dry cleaning wasn't ready for collection on time/day stated. They have now offered me £50 & £5 vouchers off (x4)
They state the machinery broke down 4 days b4 collection.
My contact details were given, but no-1 rang me 2 advise me of the problem. We were going 2 a wedding up north but had 2 leave without a dress.
I had 2 find local shops on the morning of the wedding & pay out 4 a new dress, a new tie 4 my husband & accessories.
Can I request proof of the repair docket for their machinery (as I don't believe them)?
They could have also rang me so I could have taken it elsewhere for dry cleaning, which they didn't. I feel if they had done I wouldn't have had 2 spend out unnecessarily.
Yes they waived the £20 bill & £50 cheque but I'm still out of pocket by £85...should I take it further or accept the loss of £85? :(
I rang the CS dept after receiving the letter & was told the Senior CS advisor would ring me back but I never got a call back!

Personally, I think they have been pretty reasonable with the compensation. You obviously still have the new dress and accessories etc. It does of course depend on whether you want to take it any further and wheter it will be worth the effort involved.

£20 bill. Compensation = no bill & £50 or no bill, £50 AND vouchers?

Either way they've compensated you over 300%. More than generous.

  • How are you down £85?

If you still have the tie, dress and accessories etc you are hardly down.
    Thinking critically since 1996....
  • I think that the compensation is generous enough. Yes, they could have called you but the compensation covers this human oversight. The breakdown of machinery is one of those things but it is by chance that it happened when your clothes were in.

Also, it isn't their fault that you left it until the last minute to put your dry cleaning in, nor should they compensate you for "accessories" to match your new dress.

I suppose I don't look @ from the same point view as u, it's money I wouldn't have 2 spend out if they had delivered the service!!!

So you want £135 compensation AND also want the clothing and accessories -- for free?

You have something for your money -- whether planned on having or not, you do.

I'd be annoyed, i'd also count myself lucky they are offering something other than the bill waivered! They don't have to

FYI: I specifically told the cleaners that I needed it back 4 a certain date & if they couldn't do it I would take it elsewhere, they assured me that they could deliver, they had over a week!! I expect a better service 4 a nationwide dry cleaners!!!

No...I would rather they compensated me 4 the dress I had 2 buy or waiver the £20 charge & £60..that would have least covered the cost of the dress. Rather that giving me 4 lots of £5 off vouchers which are valid til Feb...I don't do that much dry cleaning!!

No I understand they don't have 2 @ all...but I feel that's it's money I wouldn't have 2 spend if they had at least rang me & advised me of the situation (I would have requested it back & taken it elsewhere).

So are you implying that they knew that there machinery would break down and kept it quiet?

The breakdown was unforeseen therefore, as far as they were aware, they could meet your deadline.

You have been handsomely compensated so don't see what your gripe is

    But your missing the point..

why should you have the money AND the assets? If they had delivered you wouldn't have had to spend the money, but you also have something to show for it, so you haven't 'lost' money as such.

I hope they withdraw their offer. Some people are just too greedy.
