No you should not be discouraged by the statement.
To illustrare how some firms treat this kind of sentence I recently saw an advert and in between the job description and the benefits they offered was a phrase the proof reader had missed that said ..insert the usual diversity crap before issue.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -

Positive discrimination is not legal in this country, although there are occasional get-outs for specialised roles.
This is not positive discrimination. It's positive action.
The former is deliberately placing someone from an under represented group into a role on the basis that they are from an under represented group.
The latter is about encouraging and enabling those from under represented groups to be in a good position to apply. But they still have to get the job on merit.

KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
2 quick points - sounds like it is a publicly funded organisation. Suggest you prepare for a diversity question in the interview.
Good luck!Mortgage May 2012 - £129k

It won't be long before employers will be stating "We welcome applications from white, English speaking, able bodied, heterosexual British Christians" (If such a thing will exist in 50 years)0

According to the 2001 census, 72% of the UK's population define themselves as Christian. The next highest, after 'no religion', is Muslim at 2.7%.
I bet I can guess which newspaper you read!0 -

how many of those would actually be Christian's though. Chruches complain about declining attendences so a big lump of the ones who put down 'Christian' are probably none practising, CofE people who think they're a Christian because of x, y and x.. Rather than opting for 'no religion' they chose Christian as they thought it was the right one.0 -

I'm sure you're right - I'm sure I read something somewhere that only 2-3% of the population go to church regularly. But the point that Enfieldian was making was that 'Christians' - active or otherwise - are at risk of being outnumbered - the facts do not bear that out.0 -
Aye i agree with you on that, just that 72% seemed pretty high. Unless the census changed all Jedi Warriors to Christians..0
