Tesco home phone

We have been having problems dialing a no. we use from Dialwise.co.uk to an international mobile phone which only cost 1p per min. Every time we phone we get a dead tone. Anyway this evening i don't know why i though of it but i tried ringing out a premium rate number, that gave a dead tone too. Fair enough premium rate numbers being blocked isn't a problem but why have they blocked the 0844 no too. I have not requested this service and nor have i had any correspondence off them for stating they are blocking certain numbers.

Has anyone else had this problem? I'm lucky I also have an NTL phone which will take the dial wise no. otherwise i would have a bill for a mobile at approx 90p per min but i am really not happy with Tesco doing this. The only thing i can think of that my son phones this mobile no through dialwise 3 times a day which Tesco are missing out of the cost of the calls, which they don't like. I think I'm going to move back to BT and stuff them off.

If your line rental is still with BT you can use the BT override number 1280 to put the 0844 calls etc through BT. Line rental with them or not you would be better off ditching Tesco ,see http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=356037

Thanks for the reply. I didn't know that number existed. But i will definitely be ditching Tesco at the earliest opportunity.

When you've managed that, have a look HERE for some other ways to save on your call costs.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
