hi.. went to tescos today......
and signed up for tescos to bill me for my home phone calls.....
on paper its seemed good...
£11. per month .....i have broadband with bt.... and by all accounts she said i could keep my broadband package with bt...... of £26.99 a month.... yes i know it high but kids are allways down loading etc....
and thats all i will pay to bt.......
the line rental will be paid to tescos....
when i worked it out...i was saving...... as i'm not really a big user of the land line..
just wanted to know if anyone else has this.....and was everything ok....
as i do have a 14 day cooling off period if i change my mind....

Moving your line rental away from BT is not a good idea for a number of reasons. For a start their line rental of £11 a month is exactly the same as BT. (In fact if you are happy with paperless billing BT now charge £10.75p a month).
Providing you make a couple of calls a month BT give you FREE caller display. Where as Tesco charge £1.50p a month for it.
Tesco call packages are not that cheap.Eg they charge £3.87 a month for inclusive evening and weekend calls. Where as Primus saver 2 who you can use in conjunction with BT charge zilch.
Also by moving to them you give up the right to using cheap call suppliers like https://www.18185.co.uk ,only BT allow you to do this.
Then theres the potential charges you might face if the line becomes faulty
I was about to suggest you read Heinz useful post on cutting the cost of your phone bill but i see he has beat me to it below.:D0 -

IMHO, there's very little good to say about Tesco (except some of their grocery prices are good).
Please use a day of that cooling off period (and cancel) and then click the 'HERE' link in my signature below for suggestions on how to really save on voice tephony.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
thanks guys........
i must admit......i think it was the lure of the mention of clubcard points that done it...
i will cancel straight away........
i am a low land line phone user anyway......
but will check out your 'here' heinz and see what pennies i can save..
thank for the adviceWork to live= not live to work0 -
hi there
i have been with tesco home phone for a few months and was about to post to see if anyone else had had any problems recently?
they have changed their billing system from quarterly to monthly, but are apparantly not telling anyone until march. i have not had a bill since august and have been told i will not get another until march (although they are still taking the money)!
even then i will not be able to look at it unless i disable my pop-up blocker!
as far as i am concerned they have breached their contract and the terms and conditions i have signed up to.
i would cancel as i am about to.:T
p.s. mega-thanks to HEINZ - just read your tutorial, and am about to save lots of money.0 -
I've gone back to BT today. I wasn't saving much/anything through Tesco anyway.
Haven't received a bill since September - neither have I been able to access anything online since then...
Also, wasn't given any indication (either by letter, or email) that my account was going to be debited this month for the quarter just gone - only realised once the money had been debited.
Have rung twice to ask for a call summary to be sent to me - was informed today that this will take another 2 weeks at least due to the massive backlog of customers experiencing the same situation.
Pretty lame0 -
If you get a problem with your line from BT, BT will come and fix it - in my experience, usually fairly quickly.
If your line is with someone else they will probably sub contract the work to BT.
If a BT customer and a T**** customer both have faults - who are BT going to do first !0 -
