rattling tins!
I give to charity when I can. What I hate though, is being accosted on the street or outside of shops, sometimes in the doorway so you can't avoid them. I do not like being asked if i would like to give, if I want to give i will. Are they allowed to approach you or rattle their tins as you walk by?

Under the charity commissions laws regarding fundraising it is illegal to rattle tins and ask or approach people to donate money.
I can't find a link at the moment to the correct page but i'll post it when i do.

My wife organises the collections who come to our ASDA store, and they certainly have a policy that people who collect must not "accost" or rattle tins, which I think is a good thing.
If people want to give, then when they see a collection that they wish to support, then they will, rather than feel they have to put something in a tin to get in or out of the store!0 -
bump, did you ever find a link James? as I thought that they weren't allowed to 'accost' people, which is a wonderful vague term.for more info check out www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk . You'll find me there.

yes, I realise I may appear cold and heartless a lot of the time.0 -
Does the same law apply to chuggers? They're always accosting people and can be very hard sell. Can I help?0

chuggers really annoy me
I think they partially trade on people being too polite to say NO.
Twice recently some chuggers cold called my house and I was not impressed.0 -

Sorry but what is a chugger?
Grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can and the wisdom to know it's me"0 -

Some information here about how they should behave.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I'm generally pro face to face fundraiser (chugger, if you prefer. I don't) However, only when they do what they should, how they should. So if you see them not doing so, then please do report them to the charity they represent, and follow SavvySue's info.for more info check out www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk . You'll find me there.
