Hi all,
Have booked a flight to Amsterdam and now need to book a hotel, I search old posts so have some links to search for hotels.
Where is best to stay to be in centre of things and not have to travel into the city, and better still I guess, what central areas should I avoid!
Also if anyone has a clean low cost hotel they can reccomend it would also be welcome.
I'm not looking for expensive high class, just a clean tidy and safe central location for a base for a couple of daays.
Thanks Tony

Posted this last week Tony, but try Hotel Van Onna, web site but doesn't take credit cards, cheap, clean and not too far out. Ask for a room at the top facing the canal.0

Go to https://www.hotels.nl
This is a great site offering big discounts with the advantage that you don't pay the hotel until you arrive.
I have the used this site on more than one occassion and give it my personal recommendation.

I agree... The place I stayed in Amsterdam was called La Boheme, very small with steep stairs but good for the price, close to the Leidseplein and pretty central..
Sorry if spellings aren't completely correct!Official DFW Nerd 2100 -
The Luxor Hotel is good, as is The Avenue. Both have nice breakfasts, the Avenue has an American style breakfast; everything you can think of there. Both hotels are within 5 mins walk of central station and are centrally located. I paid about 80 euros for a double room, inclusive of breakfast. Prices will rise as it gets to Easter. Rooms in Amsterdam hotels tend to be small.
Look at several hotel booking sites before you actually book as prices for the same rooms/hotels/dates can vary from site to site. Weekends are usualy dearer than weekdays. Have a look at this site:

Thanks guys.
still trying on this. Hotel Van Onna is fully booked for 28,29,30 April and the lowest priced B&B I have found so far is 119€ per night. A lot of places are fully booked.
Will keep trying with the other ideas, thanks guys.

I went to Amsterdam a couple of years ago after booking The Hotel Krasnapolsky on https://www.lastminute.com This is a 4 or 5 star hotel in Dam Square and was very nice, booking through lastminute.com meant we got the room for £70 a night rather than the normal price of over £100!Sam0

The breakfast gets a bit boring after a few days as it never varies but great for a weekend.0 -
Also try
https://www.bookings.nl for accomodation,we always book via this site,no commision to the booking agents.
Hotel special offers should be avalible too, although the site has just been revamped,so would'nt swear to it.0 -
try http://www.easytobook.com and specify 1* hotels.they are currently showing two hotels with rooms available for around 140 euros for all three nights -tho' one doesn't
include breakfast. On the same site I think,I found another hotel with a dormitory room
which was even less-hardly surprising as there were ten beds in the room.If you can't
find it and it might be of interest, get back to me and I will see if it was on another site.0 -
Sorry,Tony the price is for two nights.Wouldn't want to mislead a namesake!0
