Cover off iPhone

Hi

Could anyone tell me how to take the cover off my iPhone? The phone is now almost 2 years old and it is seriously messing me about - freezing all the time, taking an age to open up messages, kicking me out Facebook after a few seconds etc.

I thought that if I rebooted it it might keep me going for another few months til I change. The "lock" button at the top does not work so therefore I can't reboot from there so I thought I could take the cover off and actually take the battery out to reset it. (I have tried to let it die naturally sooo many times, but my god it lasts for ages on 20% battery lol!!)

Does anyone know if rebooting will solve my problem? Its only really in the last month that it has been giving bother and I think my contract is up for renewal in Jan/Feb so I'm not really bothered about sending it back to O2 or Apple for a repair (or even if they would do it!!)

Thanks in advance

You don't say which iPhone you have, but it does not need to be disassembled to do a full reset. As I recall, you need to press the Power and Home buttons simultaneously for 3-4 seconds, this will enforce a complete shut-down. Restart by pressing and holding down the usual power on button for a few seconds, and you'll see the Apple logo on the display as it powers up. That clears most issues!

If not, resetting to Factory defaults and reinstalling your data is the next step.

If you can't do a hard reboot with the top button and home button, you can go into iTunes and do a restore. As part of that process it reboots several times. Backup first!

To answer the original question, go to ebay and you will find several opening kits. Basically you need a plastic 'thing' to be able to prise apart the phone without damaging it.
