2MB Broadband and wireless router?

No, because an ADSL modem won't work on a cable service. The cable modem belongs to VM and is not yours to replace-and they should have upgraded it if necessary when they upgraded all customers to 10Mbps. Are you sure that you are not connecting it via USB instead of ethernet? If so I recall that the USB side would only run at about 3MBps.
Why did you revert to a 2Mbps package if the minimum charge is for 10MBps?
I'd ask VM to upgrade your cable modem if necessary and at the same time to supply you with a wireless router.
I asked about 10mb, and it is another £10 a month.
it is definately ethernet (have a blue cable with ethernet written on it) and a cable modem (with cable modem written on it).0 -
I think you need to speak to a supervisor at VM then. IIRC all accounts were upgraded to 10Mbps at least a year ago.
If you were not getting that speed, then a complaint would have resulted in an engineer visit to resolve the problem-if a modem upgrade were necessary it would not be chargeable.
spike will probably be along shortly and can no doubt fill in the details.
It appears that on new connections they are now installing a cable modem combined with a wireless router, rather than a separate modem and router. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Just to narrow down what you want look at "broadband wireless router" on this page. People here, with more knowledge than me, will help set you up.

EDIT: get the list in price order by selecting the green PRICE button.0 -

0. unplug ethernet cable from computer
1. connect cable modem <-> broadband wireless router (using existing ethernet cable); connect the cable to the WAN port on the router
2. connect one of the LAN ports on the router <-> computer
3. connect one of the LAN ports on the router <-> laptop (always a good idea before setting up wireless)
4. unplug the laptop and set up a wireless connection
EDIT: make sure the wireless broadband router has at least 1xLAN port (most have 4 I think).0 -

But since 10 is the minimum, you should not be paying any more for it.
You should most definitely notice the difference between 2 and 10 meg.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

It is always worth checking but if you are paying less than £21.00pm without a VM phone line or less than £13.50pm with a VM phone line then you are ok, if not then demand the service you are paying for (which includes a wireless cable modem/router).
Edited - the Broadband with a phone line of £5 was discounted for 3 months only, proper price £13.50pm.Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0
