Cheap Robust PAYG - any ideas?

I am wanting to buy a cheap and robust PAYG mobile phone for my sons. They are aged 10 and 12 and the phone is to share, Neither of them is remotely interested in having a mobile phone, but there are now occassions when it would be useful for them to be carrying one. (Eg when they are playing football/badminton away from home and need to contact us to arrange collection).

Both boys are a bit careless and tend to hurl their stuff around the place so the phone does need to be a bit robust, well OK ... waterproof and unshockable!

We live in NE Scotland so coverage on some networks isn't great. I think O2 and Vodpahone are probably our best bet.

My sister is also looking for this phone.. she's found the v3i for £79.99 refurb at phones4u - with £5 quidco that seems like the best deal.
