A life insurance policy in trust should work and age / health dependent could offer a cheap remedy whilst his son is dependent

You just reminded me, I must update my expression of wish for my pension :o
  • Yes it is possible to make provision in a will for disinheriting a child. I've Seen it successfully done and defended on a number of occasions. It's all in the wording of the will.

Best to treat him whilst you are alive to see him enjoy the the treats.
And obvioulsy you and your son have a loving bond, what is sad, is that not everybody is having that sort of child/parent bond whilst they are living, you only have to look on the CSA board, to realise some people are forced to just be remembered when something needs to be placed on the table :o

Well the treats at the moment have to be largely non-monetary lol, ( I am worth more dead than alive thanks to life insurance :rotfl:) but what you say re CSA board is sadly true as I know from friends' experiences.

TBH my ex will never have anything anyway but his will would make funny reading.

Please stop bringing your ex and your personal story into every thread with even a passing relevance. It's undermining any actual point you might have.

And the solicitor would have advised you of how to word it , as mentioned you could have left £1 and state the reasons why you are not leaving anymore.

But if the child is financially dependent (or anyone else is financially dependent for that matter) they can challenge the will on the ground it does not make reasonable provision for them. A nominal sum in a will does not void their statutory rights to do so.

No, I was not advised to leave the child £1 for the reasons mentioned in the second quote. As the child is a minor and therefore dependent, my will would not have made reasonable provision for them, even though in my eyes, leaving my sister to look after his affairs would have done so.

That is so true. I was widowed when my son was 4. I would give back the life insurance, paid off mortgage and whatever else and live in a shed if I could give my son his daddy back.

Huge reality check, thank you and bless you for sharing that, it's so true. Your post actually raised a tear here.

I know what you mean though, I would give everything I own to have just one more day with my father who I lost to cancer last year 5 days before his 70th birthday.

My Daughter has been rejected, ignored, left out of everything involving her Dad and his Wife. Not about the money but this has caused no end of Mental Health Issues that my young Daughter has had to deal with AS A CHILD. To ignore as a child and then have such a slap in the face later in life is just SO WRONG!!! Legal or not, hassle from the ex or not. The child has to live with the consequences of a useless parent. Makes my blood boil grrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
    I'm not a "SINGLE" mum, I'm a "DOUBLE" mum!:D

The useless parent is not necessary the non resident one, and I'm not reffering to your episode, but I wonder how many of these 'rejected' children remember the non resident on birthdays, xmas and fathers day? Or even the little 5p phone call? From another board it seems some like to glee with the practice of estrangement and later on the harsh reality starts to hit home, when people simply move on with their lives and aquant themselves with people that like and love their presence.
