Sky Broadband Speed

I have Sky Broadband and i pay for the 'up to' 20mb
The performance is about as consistent as Theo Walcott and varies from as low as 8mb to 11mb. It's currently sat at 8.37mb.
There are 2 issues here that really !!!! me off
1. That they advertise up to 20mb and i struggle to get over half that
2. The variance of the speed.
I raised this with Sky and they say that 11mb is a good speed and that nobody ever gets the full speed. They also say my line quality is apparently strong as I'm only a mile from the exchange. As for the variance they've sent an engineer round and apparently everything is as it should be.
I don't want to move from Sky as it'll have quite a large impact on what I pay as I have have my TV, Phone & Broadband are with them.
I think it's ridiculous that they can provide such a below par service and effectively say 'it's within the terms & conditions' .
I plan to pick this up with Sky again and I'm after a few tips about how I go about it:(

It's very well known that "up too" is just a guide, the only way you would ever get the full 20mb is if you were living in the exchange. The fact that the speed depends on distance from the exchange is very well documented, so shouldn't come as a surprise.
For what it's worth you are getting a very good speed at 11 mb and despite what they say the variance in speed will happen at peak times when everyone is on line at the same time, with a low of 8 mb you have a bloody good service. Put the 20mb out of you mind as it will never happen where ever you go (infinity excluded of course).0 -
i have to agree with the above post... 8 to 11mb is a great speed and a drop of 3mb you should not even see.
Im very lucky where I live. I get 22mb on sky broadband but I dont see a difference when surfing from when I had 8mb on o20 -
Post your router stats then.
But 8-11MBps on an up to 20Mbps service is perfectly good.
What speed did you actually expect to get? The full 20Mbps?
You will only get the speed that your line can physically support-nothing that Sky or any other ISP can do about that.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
That's exactly the same as I get on my "up to" 20Mb service from Sky.
Not sure what the complaint is really.0
