As this is a forum that recommends Avast free its no wonder few replies .

I refuse to use any other products bar Eset Nod 32 or Kaspersky based upon long term AV Comparatives results .

  • If your going to buy a AV product, the one the OP has linked to is the one I would recommend.

It is the one I use personally after testing all the usual AV programs paid and free.

Great product and uses the NOD32 AV engine and also has the lightest or one of the lightest footprints.

Worth testing the free trail if your not happy with your AV.

not true, I'm afraid - I trialled this a couple of months ago, and it's quite the resource hog over avast and avira free editions.

It's also much heavier than the full avira suite comprising similar modules that I'm currently (free) trialling on another lappy...

It's a very good security suite, but too heavy on resources for my liking and needs - if you have a mega-spec* machine it's probably fine :)

    * pretty much most things are this compared to my three machines ;)
    ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

Do you refer to ESS4 or ESS5? Link

I use ESS4 on my ACER Aspire ZG5.

I'm going to have to disagree in regards to it being a resource hog. Can you provide any links that point to this?

Standalone I think NOD32 and Avira are very light.

AFAIK it is one of the lightest, it might not be the lightest but it is one of them, Avira being another light one.

Which one anyone choose's can be all subjective though as at the top there is not much between them. I personally like the interface over the others.

ESS5. You might find that it disappeared for a while shortly after release and has only recently reappeared.
So perhaps it needs to be retested in terms of memory usage. Still, close to top of the tree in that test.

I agree, ESS is a cracking programme which slightly lost it's way for a few years (don't they all) but now seems to be back on stream again amongst the very best.

Although I no longer use it I had NOD32 on my system for years and I can only say that it was superb.
