Free photo editing software

Alternatively, could always post the pic (if you feel comfortable doing so only), sure someone could edit the photo for you. Personally don't know much about the free photo programs, never used them. Always stuck with the tried and tested program of Photoshop

Are folk still advising an impenetrable behemoth like Gimp for very simple photo editing jobs!

Picassa advised above is good, I've only barely looked at Photoscape but it seems to be amply adequate and the package I'd suggest is Hornin Style Pix:

Both are free, straightforward, effective and low-resource demanding if your PC ain't the latest rocket.

Gimp isn't an impenetrable behemoth. It might take a complete newbie a couple of hours of tinkering to figure out what their doing but the quality far outstrips other free photoediting software. It has been tried and tested and there are also loads of online tutorials for it.
