Facilities for making hot drinks in offices...

My boss's response so far has been to point out that there is a coffee shop next door so I'm not holding out much hope!
If there's a coffee shop next door you'll have a kettle, toaster and microwave by the end of the month when the boss cottons on to you all nipping out every half an hour to get a coffee

The problem is that I'd have to pay for the facilities nearby!
I've always taken free tea and coffee for granted in the industry I work in. In fact, most places I've worked before have had free soft drinks. One place even had big fruitbowl for us to help ourselves.
We could probably get a kettle and a fridge in the actual office but then they'd be no where to wash the cups up (apart from the toilets).
I know, up to earlier this year the office I was in had Tea, Coffee etc provided FOC. We have now moved to the main site and have to provide our own. We do have kitchen facilities but it was a shock to start with. Petty I know but it is a pain!0 -

I would suggest you show your employer the guidance.
Will the coffee shop be open at the same time your workplace operates - such as night times or weekends?
Even temporary building sites have to conform to the same regulations - I fail to see how your employer won't supply basic welfare requirements for their staff.
Is he a tight wad or what?0 -
I can guarantee that if that happened in our office, one of the secretarial bays would soon be housing a kettle, toaster and a little coolbox with milk in!!! :rotfl:DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

What's the problem with that? Assuming the toilets are cleaned regularly I see no problem with washing a cup at the sink in the toilets. We have a coffee/tea machine at work which dispenses plastic cups but I use my own proper cup. I wash that in the toilets. No problem.0 -
