Better speed from new Netgear router

Just posting this because Netgear gets a bad press - though that might be with wireless connections. Orange sent me a Netgear router to replace the old Siemens one and I connected it today. Maybe it's to do with the new ethernet cable (which is a lot thicker) but I am seeing an immediate increase in speed from an average of 3.7 mbps to around 5.4 mbps :j

    The network/ethernet cable will have nothing to do with it.
    Some routers are more suspectible to the noise on the telephone line than others. The router installed at my parents house is near enough six years old, but is far more tolerant of the line (which is a very long line) than the router I'd purchased to replace it is.
