I usually average around £35-ish a week for 1 person, and apart from loo roll which was on offer I cant for the life of me see how it comes to £70, I also juice a lot hence the fruit.
Cheers YDSM
Try shopping around you can save yourself an awful lot of money.
We do our main shop in Aldi and top up from Asda or SainsburyBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Some great suggestions but I think the only way you're going to really save is by spending more time on the shopping and cooking. You could save a bit by dropping a brand but if you want to get one shop, delivered from one supermarket then you're unlikely to save the maximum.
For example, I know the gammon joints in Aldi and Lidl are really good and much cheaper than Sainsbury. I have loads of Branston baked beans in my storecupboard that were £1 for 4 when Asda last had them on offer. Flora is 2 for £2.50 in the Co-op at the moment and what I have in my fridge was 2 for £2 a while ago.
Hunting down a bargain and cooking tasty, healthy food cheaply can be addictive (I know I am) but it will depend whether your lifestyle allows you to do it.
P.S. If JackieO, drops by: I haven't made a rice pudding in years and reading your post really made me fancy one. Is yours the baked rice pudding with the nutmeg on top or a boiled one more like Ambrosia? And, do you have to use caster sugar or would granulated or sweetener work?
I do a baked one and use whatever sugar that I want, but I do particularly like it with demerara sugar. I have also used sweetener when on a diet.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Hi guys,
Is there a thread on this board that anyone knows of that is dedicated to helping you organise your shopping, like this thread, but more plan based.
I need a plan!0 -
I haven't got time to read the replies as I'm just about to dash out, so sorry if this has been said...
I find what really puts up the supermarket shop isn't the food, it's the cleaning stuffs. They are the easiest thing to sort too. Chop up old clothes/ towels/ curtains for cloths and buy Stardrops, which is a hard product to describe but Asda sell it for about £2-£3 in a big bottle. I've been using it for everything since July and I'm 40% of the way down the bottle. When I say everything...
It can be used to clean the kitchen sides, the floors, the bathroom, the wooden table, the upholstered dining chairs, the leather sofa, the windows, metal, the car, the dog stuff, the painted walls, highchairs toys and cots, you can even wash up with it and hand wash clothes with it if you want. Just don't use it on velvet, that's the only thing it disagrees with (apparently- it's been ok when I've got it on velvety clothes).
It's so cheap to use because you need about a teaspoon full in a 2L measuring jug or a table spoon full in a full bucket of water. It's hard to make any impact on it at those dilutions! It smells a bit like the bubbles children blow.
In my house Stardrops has replaced virtually everything I used to clean with (except washing up liquid, I still use that) and as I say, I'm not half way down the bottle yet. That's with a cat, a dog, 2 babies, a teenager and a bloke to clean up after. Try it.0 -
What a great thread! I've a couple of questions: Is it cheaper to buy loose veggies/fruit or to buy pre-packaged packs. Also, can I freeze raw veggies (i.e. cut up peppers, onions, carrots etc) to freeze rather than waste them if I dont get time to use them in time)Nov NSD: 8/7 Dec NSD: 1/10Sealed pot member #1443 2011: £106. 2012: £171Ninjakat challenge: Aim to clear two debts by April 2013100 day challenge: No toiletries or magazines 19/100 (3 x fails

I have a huge sack of potatoes which will generally last me 6 months if I look after them.
Could you let me know how the potatoes last this long please? xNov NSD: 8/7 Dec NSD: 1/10Sealed pot member #1443 2011: £106. 2012: £171Ninjakat challenge: Aim to clear two debts by April 2013100 day challenge: No toiletries or magazines 19/100 (3 x fails)

Ditto! Even if I keep them in the fridge they start going wrinkly & sprouting after about 6 weeks“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
It's light that makes potatoes & most root veg go off. If you store them somewhere dry & dark then you can keep them through the winter. I use an old wooden box in my potting shed.
