Hi,
Ok I see on the other areas of the forums that 2 people seem to be able to get by on around £100 a month for food shopping. And I was wondering what tips there are as at the moment I am close to £200 and its just me
I shop at Sainsburys and I will post up an average shopping list when I get home to see where I am going wrong.
I try and only buy what I will need for each of my 7 meals during the week but I think I must be missing something as my bill is so high.

Can't wait to see your shopping bill. Totally flummoxed how you would spend that amount unless you buy a lot of alcohol0

I am near (possibly over) £200.00 too and we don't eat a great deal. Please keep your progress posted as any hints and tips would be greatly welcomed. Ideally I would like to get down to £150.00 per month for 2.0

Yeah I know its a lot and belive it or not I don't drink either :eek:
I really would like to get down to £100 a month. I am wondering if its because Sainsburys prices are quite high. I do also do online shopping so that does add £5 delivery but then it saves me an hour wondering round shopping.
Anyway you can all mock my shopping list later on when I post it tonight0 -
I also don't like paying the delivery cost but I know I will easily spend quadruple that if I go round the shops picking up 'bargains.' I don't drink either, or smoke. I need to cut back on the chocolate and possibly have more veggie days than meat days, that should save a bit but it will be good to see how you get on0

£200 on food for single person, blimey. Must be eating very well then. Lot's of fresh meats and other foods I would say. Maybe a lot of wasted food as well.
My main shopping is from Asda and Iceland. Buy a lot of frozen items, a few pizzas, bags of ready cooked chicken, bags of frozen onion, mixed veg, sliced peppers, chips, roast pots, rice, the odd meal for one, breaded chicken. I avoid there pork and beef, as contains a lot of water. Fill it up once a month
May not be the healthiest diet, but can get the bill down to about £80 or £100 a month. That's with buying all fresh breads, cheeses and basic fridge items from asda.Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -
Has anyone tried the frozen chocken breasts? We get through so many bloomin chocken breasts a month (about 16) it would be good to know if these are any good for casseroles and things.0

We only use the frozen breasts and had no problem, I usually buy them when they are half price. Some shops sell the breasts that should be cooked straight from frozen as well.0

I am really fussy but very very slowly (one step at a time) I have been buying basics/value/smart price items (bourbon biscuits yum, chopped tomatoes which I haven't had the guts to use yet). I don't know why I'm so petrified about trying something new. They must be okay otherwise they wouldn't get sold.0

IF do you buy frozen chicken breasts, have a look around and check the water content first, some of the supermarket ones tend to have a lot of water, found that iceland have the lowest, at least from the shops i go to.
Or you can go to asda or tesco, buy there 3 for £10 offer, so you can get 9 decent size chicken breasts, put each one in a bag and freeze. I do that every now and then. Also buy the mince like that, but i make a load of lasagne and then freeze what i dont eat, can get at least 5 extra meals that way.Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -
I have recently started buying meat from the butchers block. It is fresh but is delivered frozen and in packs of 2. The bacon is amazing, it is massive with very little fat on the bottom or round the edge and is something like £1.58 for 400g. Really top quality. All the other meat is really good quality too. I occasionally buy from supermarkets but when we put it in the lean mean fat reducing grilling machine the gunk that comes out is unbelievable and the breasts shrink to about half the size.
Iceland you say... I havent' been there for years. I would like to try ALDI but we don't have one near us.0
