Thanks for information. Have been waiting for MAC code from Virgin and had looked at Newnet. This package seems ideal for our surfing needs.
Had installed DUMeter and seem to be averaging between 130 to 150 MB bandwidth daily, so I think 12GB monthly would be great, at same price as Virgin who rate 2nd to last at http://www.dslzoneuk.net/isp_ratings.php
Newnet are rated at the top end of ratings for speed.
What are the advantages of Static IP compared to dynamic though?
Thank you0 -
Newnet have a login area where you can check your bandwidth usage for previous months, with a breakdown for days of that month, plus a graph for the last 24 hours, giving hour by hour breakdown. The usage meter seems to be pretty accurate.
On the static ip issue, welll . . .
Some people may have other ideas here, but here's some reasons.
A dynamic ip will come from a *pool* so could have been used for all sorts of activity, generating a fair bit of port traffic.
At least having your own ip, you know what to expect, where it's been used etc.
Security wise, no real difference.
But static is really better for special applications, such as running a server, and remote access to the pc.
Also useful to run a latency (l8nc) graph, such as this
there are work-arounds to use a dynamic ip, such as dyndns.org but is easier with static.

B@gger - I just migrated away as they had put up their prices and none of the existing packages suited me!
Was very happy with their Customer Service so can reccomend them.
Still i am getting even faster speeds and a great service from the Uk Free Software Network for 19.99 for 30 meg peak download and 300 meg off peak. A pretty good deal in itself.Fortune's always hiding, I've looked everywhere......0 -
you mean, you're on their upto 8Mb, on their 30GB peak usage and 300 GB offpeak usage package0
