Open your eyes and look around - that's all you need to do.

SOLD signs all over the place, no discounts in shops, shoppers buying in a frenzy ..... this is what happens here in the South.

Obviously, up North it may be tougher?

But reports are that everyone is spending - it's looking great here!

My ex lives in Seer Green/Jordan, so not quite South but near enough, we were talking on the phone a while back about the economy and I said it was getting tougher up in the Midlands and a few companies were laying off, high unemployment in Brum etc etc,

He said ' recession, what f'ing recession, there ain't one down here, he said people are spending money like its going out of fashion'

It certainly seems that some areas are suffering and some are doing ok?

I have been posting about this for months now - in my experience, there is no longer any crisis in anyones head - except for the saddos on HPC!

I cannot get any discounts (even when buying a £340 pair of Binoculars for heavens sake!).
    Ever noticed inflation?

I have witnessed people spending like it's the last day on earth - they are just getting on enjoying life.

Property around here is the very same, people fed up waiting and wondering and putting lives on hold - they are out there buying houses (indeed, snapping them up FAST!).

Because life is about living, not renting and scrimping ...... get out there folks, there's a party feel to things, it's warm and sunny and everyone has money to spend - so SPEND!

I have read some amazing posts in my time but this one really takes the biscuit. Yeah lets all have a party and spend like its 2006. It must be nice in your head. Actually you sound a bit like comical Ali - "there are no tanks here"

So what you are saying is we should all go out and buy a wife and a pair of binoculars.

Does she really stand that far away from you in public ?

I guess I must be living in a cocoon here then?

Certainly property is selling within hours, payrises are running at over 6%, jobs are secure, savings are mounting rapidly, the sun is shining and it's warm.

The fields are open, the air is clean, shops are full to brimming with people - stock is flying off the shelves.

The oldest car you see is 2 years old.

I guess the demand to live here drives up House Prices? 10 foot x 8 foot sheds, with a sea view, (beach-huts) are selling for silly money.

I used to live up North - really North .... I cut my knees on the backstreets of Middlesbrough. I know what it's like to be skint, to struggle to pay for coal, to wonder where the next meal is coming from.

But, this ain't anything like those days .... not even in the darkest days .... not having a 50" Plasma 3D TV does NOT mean you are poor!

Today's poor are yesterdays rich .... tomorrows poor are todays rich.

Working in retail, the cold weather had everyone running out for very warm things with the shops stocking up on this, then it went warmer again, so sales died a bit. However we have just had Eid, always really busy where we are and had us smashing our targets. A few people started their Christmas shopping, the middle aged organised/bored women were out buying (men, expect masses of socks and underpants this year), so that helped too. I'm expecting a slow couple of weeks, but then it will pick up agin in December.
