Iphone help
My Nokia phone has just died. It's been going for some time, but I have loved it and haven't wanted to get rid.
I'm on contract with o2. I use it mainly for work. Contract doesn't run out until April 2012. Can't go to o2 to get another phone/repair because I've already had the upgrade last year and sold the phone (wanted to keep this old phone as liked it).
So, I'm looking at getting an Iphone and buying it through the company. Can I just cut the SIM (at my own risk) to put into the Iphone and carry on with the o2 contract or can I contact o2, tell them I'm buying an Iphone and ask them to send me a new SIM? Would this let me keep my old number - as it's a business number I don't want to change it.
I'm clueless with phones

Yes you can cut a standard sim to fit an iphone and O2 would be none the wiser. Though it can be done by a kitchen knife/scissors, to be on the safe side i would recommend something like this (which comes with adaptors in case you want to use the new smaller sim with standard phones)

Lovely, thank you

Next question, I cannot seem to buy the Iphone4 from Apple directly, only the Iphone3 or the 4s (which I'm not too bothered about). So, presumably if I buy from anyone other than o2 I would also then need to pay to get it unlocked, or by an unlocked one from somewhere like Ebay.
Is it worth getting the 4s?0 -

16 and 32Gb are available only from retailers though.0 -
not all sims can be cut down to a micro sim,
It depends how old your existing sim is ?? older sims are larger and will only get damaged if you try and cut them down to a micro sim !!0 -
Lovely thank you.0 -
If its an iPhone 4 you should be able to cut the SIM card to fit with no problems. Any earlier type of iPhone and I think you would struggle.
A fairly pertinent article for your situation would appear to be this one debating whether to get an iPhone on contract or buy one outright and which option is the best value - http://www.simonlydeals.mobi/iphone-contract-or-iphone-sim-only
Thank you for this, but I already have a contract that I pay £35 a month and it doesn't end till next year, so plan on keeping that as don't want to pay early fees. Will have a look at it. I thought it was only the Iphone4 upwards that had a microsim. Doesn't the 3 have a standard SIM?0 -
Yes, it's 4s and 4 that require a micro-sim. I have no idea what kitsonian meant when saying about struggling with earlier iPhones.
And I think only for some very-very old sim cards there can be some problems with cutting.0 -

Just called o2 and they are going to send me a microsim out, so that's that sorted more easily than expected. Just now need to find it as cheaply as possible! Appreciate everyone's help
