How can i hide my folder/files?

I looked for something like this myself recently to use on a flash drive and I came to the conclusion that it was very difficult to hide folders on a flash drive that would stay hidden if the drive was used by someone else on another PC. I tried a couple of free programs and it seemed that once you plug the flash drive into a new PC that does not have the program loaded, then the functionality is lost and your folder is visible. My Lockbox works well to hide stuff on a laptop and it's free and easy to use. True Crypt will make the data unreadable and will work on a flash drive although not that simple to use.
