Hi
Has anyone been to Lloret or somewhere equally close to Gerona airport? Our local airport now does really cheap flights there so we were thinking of a long weekend in May but...what is the area like? is it all high rise etc? it's hard to tell from the pics on the internet.
If anyone can recommend a hotel that would be great too.
cheers
Tilly

It's Ok when the sun is out

Tossa de mar is another I prefer0 -
We went in Oct, not as full of the 18-30's then!
It is a high rise resort, the front parade is nice..........strange beach, be careful!
Haven't been to Tossa but friends have and they all say its nicer, I would go back to the area just perhaps not that hotel/resort!
Its 40 mins or so from Gerona airport.Panda xx

i agree tossa is nice walled town- i also like sant feliux and all round the bay of roses.
favourite is calella de palafrugel and llan franc but they may be a little too quiet for you. i would recommend looking at apartment sites as this region is where many of the rich from barcelona have holiday homes and would be perfect for you then. l'escala is middle sized resort to have plenty of resturants for a fortnight but no more than a couple of stories high.
try https://www.ownersdirect.com

we went two years ago and second week- first in june was very high 20s
any other info i will try to help0 -
We liked Lloret, although we went out of season, in May I believe. Lots of excursion trips available, and a very good bus service. We visited Andorra from Lloret.
Tossa de Mar is very pretty, much quieter than Lloret but still lots of shops and places to eat.0 -
Lloret looks absolutely beautiful as you look out of the coach window and are leaving it behind. And that is the best way to look at Lloret as it disappears.
If you are into loud music, dirty hotels full of the best drunken home grown inbreds Britain has ever produced, then Lloret is for you.
We had 14 days and moved hotel twice. The first hotel, after the second night there was a huge fight between a scottish clan of glasgow inbreds and the spanish staff, the police arrested the lot and instead of shooting them, took them to court and allowed them back the next day.
After moving to another hotel we complaining as a bed was thrown off the top floor onto a car below and football matches with beer cans took place in the hotel corridors all night, all with vomit and urine in the lifts and stairs, we then found our own hotel out of the centre and waited and waited, counting off the days.
If its cheap then get ready for the asbo !!!!!! that goes with it. Sorry couldnt be more helpful but I still fondly look back to the view as we left and it filled me with joy.0 -
Haha great...thanks for the honest views...that's what I wanted!
Lorian, thanks for the pictures...Tossa looks lovely, we don't want anything too busy, just want to relax really, so glad I asked now as we're sitting down tonight to decide on it.....shame as the hotel 'Guitart' looked really nice for the money.
Happy chappy...your post WAS helpful!
Deva, i've seen hotels for calella, on Expedia but I hadn't heard of it before so I think it may be worth looking at that again.
Thanks everyone....

Have to agree with comments about Tossa De Mar. I'm not in the UK at the moment, so I can't get you the direct contact details of the place where we stayed. I think it was either 34 Euros or 35 Pounds. Either way, they were nice and helpful and allowed to park our car at the side of the hotel. A minute or so from the beach.

What about girona itself? Great place, much nicer than lloret. Try https://www.medhotels.com. We stayed at the Costabella but I think we booked through expedia.0

I haven't been to Lloret for many years but what I do remember is that the Beach was very shingly and not soft underfoot at all.0

Been to Tossa a few years ago - highly recommended. Small resort but with everything you need. Visited Lloret for one night out but preferred Tossa.
Went in September with http://www.portland-direct.co.uk/
Just checked their site and I think it was Aparthotel Esmerelda (it's their cheapest option)
