I'd echo that...the Sony among the ones up thereSquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

I did a fair bit of research (read loads of reviews etc) before buying my son a 32" TV to go in his bedroom with a V+HD box. Bearing in mind he uses it for his X-Box online gaming like you,the lack of lag was a major issue. I bought this http://www.richersounds.com/product/lcd-tv/lg/32lk450u/lg-32lk450 from Richer Sounds last week and my son is over the moon with it. He says there is no lag whatsoever, and at £280 it's a bargain.
FWIW, the bloke in Richer Sounds talked me out of getting the more expensive Sony listed above. he said that the response time of the screen would cause lag issues with gaming, something which I went on to read elsewhere. He said he was happy to sell me the Sony (which he had in stock), but said that the cheaper LG was better suited to my son's needs and he was getting 5 in the next day. I duly went and bought it next day and like I say it's excellent.0 -

That looks a good 1,
To add more to the thread ive measured what distance we sit from the tv, the closest position to sit is 7ft then 8 then 9.0 -

The recommended viewing distance - for what that's worth - is about twice the screen size.
A 32" gives you about six foot, so a 37" would be more suitable.0 -

Samsung LE40D503F LCD HD 1080p TV, 40 Inch with Built-in Freeview
£379.95

Currys give only 1 year manufacturers guarantee unless you pay extra; so free 5 year guarantee by John Lewis is attractive.
Don't know how this Samsung compares with others.
Some good review sites I have come across are by TechRadar, AVForums and What Hi-Fi0 -

JHR17 works for bestbuy he and two others are spamming forums
I visted the 'bestbuy' website. No buying guides, reviews or anything to help the consumer. It is just an outlet trying to unload discontinued and obsolete items.
And spamming the forums is disreputable. Avoid!
There are many other well known review sites on the net with quality reviews and best buy suggestions.0
