Hi all,
I've come to the end of my contract with Orange. The signal in my house isn't great so I'd like to try a Giffgaff sim to see if O2 is any better.
I've asked Orange to send me an unlock code, but what I want to do is test the O2 signal without permanently disconnecting from Orange just in case there's no improvement.
I'm in the process of applying for jobs atm so I don't want to risk any potential pitfalls of porting my number over permanently till I find out if O2 is any better (just in case I miss that vital interview call
).
So, can I just buy a Giffgaff goodybag, remove the Orange sim and replace it with the Giffgaff sim and start playing? And then is it just a case of replacing it with the Orange sim when I want to phone from 'my number'?
Also, if I haven't ported the number over will people trying to get hold of me on my Orange number (while I'm playing with the GiffGaff sim) still be able to leave messages on my Orange answerphone?
Sorry if this sounds a little silly, but I've never played with alternative sim cards before - it's all new to me!

Just apply for a Giffgaff sim card top it up with £5 and test dont like dump it like then port your old number to Giffgaff.
You dont need to buy Goodybags unless they are more cost effective for your use .

Have you had a look at sitefinder for your area ?
http://www.sitefinder.ofcom.org.uk/search
If it says GSM that's a 2G basestation
If it says UMTS that's a 3G basestation
Is there someone you know that can lend you another phone (either Orange to put your current SIM in or unlocked for the GiffgaffSIM) ?0 -

You can't top a giffgaff SIM up with £5.
You can get promotional/bonus £5 credits, but you need to make an initial top up to activate a new SIM, which has to be at least £10.
You can, however, get £5 cashback via a cashback site like http://www.quidco.com/giffgaff/
so your £10 top up will only cost you £5.
Can you get a friend to come round to visit who is on either 02 or giffgaff or tesco mobile?0
