is there anywhere i can deposit euro coins into my bank account?

i have a big change pot that i keep money (sterling) in and every time it fills up, i take it to natwest and chuck it into the coin counting machine.

i have a separate tub with euro coins in from previous holidays. i estimate there is about €50 in there. i don't know anyone who is going away to europe in the near future and would rather, if i could, just put the money into my bank and spend it

does anyone know if this is at all possible or am i stuck with it until i/someone i know is going away?

thanks

Why do you hoard coins (GBP or EUR) instead of spending them as the need arises? If I were you, I'd tackle the cause and not the effect.

why do i hoard coins? because i reeaaaaaaally can't be bothered carrying pocketfuls of 1p, 2p and 5p pieces around with me. it goes into a pot (see 'the sealed pot challenge' on these here forums) and when it gets half full or completely full, it gets tipped in.

similar story with euros. the 1c coins are the bain of my life and are good for nothing other than throwing at the local scallies, pigeons and other reprobates.

  • Unfortunately banks and exchange bureaus will only accept paper money, no coins.

As mentioned, Natwest & RBS will not accept Euro coins. If you try chucking them in the Cash & Deposit Machines, they will chuck them back out. :)

    You're stuck with them.

You may find the odd charity that would take them, but I'd suggest waiting and palming them off on somebody who's heading for the Eurozone.

    Assuming it still exists.

The cost of changing currency (and then changing it back again) has always made me hold on to notes when I bring them back from holiday. Just spend 'em next year.

You don't need pocketfuls of coins. You're probably not spending the coins when the need arises. For example, if something costs £4.75 and you have a £5 note, a 20p and a 5p, do you give £5.25 and get one 50p coin back in change? I rarely have more than 3 or 4 coins in my pocket, often one or none. The same principle applies to EUR as to GBP, as both currencies have the same denomination coins.
