Remember that builders cannot, and do not, ask £1million for a Studio Flat in Hartlepool ....... this would be akin to the pathetic attempts above to win a debate.

No, they list them at £100,000 ...... then throw in carpets, curtains, mortgages, even earlybird discounts, etc. Some people buy at these prices.

A clever buyer comes along and offers £80,000 as a straight, no PartEx. purchase - willing and able to proceed.

A bargain as other buyers may have had to accept the higher price due to their own circumstances.

And, if it's a bargain for the buyer - it IS a bargain ..... whatever anyone may think.

    EH?

No ... and you are just being silly now ... a bargain would be if I paid you £155,000 and EVERYONE else was paying £500,000 for the same property!!

I think you have lost the plot ....

MrRee I'm just trying to simply explain to you asking price bears no resemblance to whether or not something is a bargain because if it's vastly overpriced in the first place then it's irrelevant.

If you paid £155,000 for my property you are basically paying over the odds and therefore are not getting a bargain and sorry I would have no sympathy for anyone that would agree to pay £500,000 for it. :rotfl:

    Compared to you?

    Yes, most definately.

And you prove nothing by altering my posts, except that you are deluded.

If you were a mouse and I a cat, I would have had enough of your wriggling by now and eat you for breakfast .......

    Whatever ......

Anyway, I'm halfway through my letter to Mr Osbourne .... you'll have to excuse me .....

    Dear Mr Osbourne

It has been brought to my attention by a certain 'shortchanged' that the inflation rate is such that he believes he can ask £500,000 for his £150,000 property (although I don't think he actually owns one in reality) ... we must get the inflation rate down or this deluded clown will continue pestering me.

Hope you or Mr cameron can assist?

    Kind Regards

  • Bit of a silly argument going on here, but from my experience, new builds represent very poor value for money. The problem is that they are vastly overpriced and the builders are not willing to budge. Certainly 20% off is the minimum discount I would accept (with carpets etc), but from what I see, the builders prefer to sit on them for years rather than offer big discounts. Having said that, many builders have released decent financial results recently so maybe there are plenty idiots out there willing to accept 5% off who think they are getting a bargain. 5% off and stamp duty paid is almost always offered to me immediately on entering the show home - before even bringing up the subject of money. There are estates near me though where the completed "new" houses are now 4 years old and planned construction has been abandoned. They're all sitting at exactly the same price they were in 2007.
