final fees??

Hi,
I'm a newbie to selling on ebay and I have something listed for £500 buy it now, a potential buyer has just emailed me and asked if Id end the auction and sell privately for £450, he said that way id avoid the high seller fees.
Could anyone with any knowledge tell me how much roughly the ebay fees would be before I reply to this guy as Im clueless!!
Thanks

10% of the final price so £45, not to mention Paypal fees (not sure how much they would be)
    In deep...
  • I thought eBay fees were capped at £40, so unless they are also offering an alternative to paypal you would be £10 down buy accepting their offer. You would also lose any seller protection from eBay.

read ebays policies you cant sell outside of ebay, if they want the item then tell them to bid as normal.

Utter rubbish. You can sell wherever the hell you want. Ebays rules are not the law and in the past have actually been illegal in some cases.

be careful as someone already said, you try to avoid fees but when buyer claims item has "not arrived" youve lost that protection and if you can afford to risk £500 worth of goods thats what risk you have to take on board.

if an ebay buyer trieds to get you to sell an ebay listed item outside of ebay then this is abreach of ebays policies and if caught or reported ebay can suspend both accounts.

any user accepts this when they register with ebay

I have seen on many occasions a listing stating that "the item is listed else where and I have the right to end my auction early"
Whether this is in breach of Ebay rules if stated I don’t know, but if your potential buyer used the Ebay email system for initial contact Ebay might not be very happy if caught.
Cash on collection only if they are local to you would be my answer.

I agree with durham_girl's comment below that you can end the listing and sell to who ever you want.

It depends how he's willing to pay.

If he wants to pay cash and collect the item, bite his hand off! You're much better this way.

If he wants to pay by Paypal, as another user said, you'll be £10 down as the FVF is capped at £40 and the paypal fees would be the same.

If he's offering payment by bank transfer or cheque, you'll be still be £10 down on the sale price but won't have to pay the paypal fees (3.4% of the total price including postage + 20p)

Don't listen to those who say that now it's listed on ebay you HAVE to sell it there - you don't and can easily end the listing.
