    There is less protection for a non Ebay sale via Paypal than one with and given the value beware of any possible scammers.

    If paying by Paypal you would need to send by an online tracked method to the buyer's registered address.

    Not knowing the item, I would suggest telling the potential buyer that you will wait for the end of the auction as you would rather sell for £500 through Ebay, if it doesn't sell then you will accept his £450 (obviously if that's what you want to do!).
