Not sure how that fits to the roof lining.
But you can't see behind you when you drive.

Just buy four screens, then you can move them into the next car.
  • Thanks SG.
We're trying not to spend out too much on the car unless we have to, as the next big bill will kill it. But I like the idea of a 2-way/4-way extension lead.

Did you look at the eBay link I pasted? Any thoughts?
Do you agree that it must come with an in-car charger/power supply?

it looks ok although it looks like it wires into a car stereo. On the pictures
    5 - power cable
    6 - ISO cable

So the ISO cable looks like it plugs into the power cable which will connect into the car stereo. Although you may be able to use it as a standalone device by wiring the power cables on 6 directly in to a cig lighter adaptor.
  • Or a slightly bigger one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/D3103Z-HD-Screen-15-XGA-Car-Flip-down-Monitor-DVD-Player-Roof-Mount-Overhead-EU-/270834106758?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item3f0ef88186

more expensive but might be easier to see from the back seats. Again it'll wire into the stereo and it looks like (depending on your head unit), you can wire it in to the stereo to use the car speakers

It's only a power cable, and doesn't conect to the car stereo. As for the warranty, it's shipped from Hong Kong, and only replaced if you return it, and they agree it's faulty, so I wouldn't expect too much.

I was just about to post this exact link and say that I don't think my first tv was this big!
As for the power its just a couple of wires and a fuse, if you don't feel capable of doing it yourself then any car stereo fitter or alarm fitter should do it for next to nothing.

my bad.. by 'stereo' i meant it doesn't have a cig lighter adaptor with it just the power cables where you'd (or i would) normally use a connection block and wire it into the stereo's power cables.

    .

i know what you mean, although with a screen that size you could nail a laptop to the roof and flip the screen

    Sounds good, SG.
Google has shown some very expensive ones (http://www.raysmith.co.uk/vision/roof-screens.html) and some much more affordable ones on ebay.

    Take this one, for example.
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CR903-9-Car-Roof-Flip-Down-DVD-Player-Monitor-Grey-/110711337659?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item19c6e8f2bb
Not saying this is the best, but first one I looked at.

    Anything wrong with it?
    Sounds extremely good value.

Not too sure about installing it, though. Step 2 of the instructions say to tighten the bracket to the ceiling, but be careful not to brake the ceiling. How does that work?

I reckon a 9" drop-down screen towards the front of the car would be visible by all the children.
Cheaper than the dual screens we've seen.
And it comes with [strike]arguments over whose turn it is[/strike] games!

The ceiling mounted screens are very expansive; not just the purchase, but the fitting as well. You might find that two seperate head-restraint mounted twin screen players is the best option. I very much doubt that all four children will always want to watch the same movie at the same time.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

  • Yes, screen each is the way to go - especially with the age differences. what suites the 2yr old will not suit the 8 :) This way you can head off the arguments before they start... However you will need a big bag for the collection of DVD's that each will insist on bringing! you can also use them at home as they get older which gives you much more control than having a TV in their rooms. (But then I am old fashioned Dad of 2 daughters)
