In my area [the usual benefit hoop to jump through] insulation and free replacement new A-rated boilers are available, all areas of the UK are not that lucky.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. Does anyone know what happens if you apply for a free boiler in these circumstances? We have at least one of the requirements (job seekers allowance -don't know how to tell if it is income based or anything else!) and also have disability living allowance, what happens if the person claiming jobseekers gains employment during the initial or installation period? Are we then responsible for paying the full costs of having a new boiler or are they waived in light of the initial acceptance?0

I applied for this free boiler throught the company DIRECT SAVINGS who contacted me to say i was entitled to this and it would be fitted on the 1st July but they never came , have phoned them and not answering me back, sent email and they contacted me saying i have to pay £1000.
So it is not free
so beware folks0 -
Hi, all
I read with great interest the free boiler article.
I phoned to check if we were eligible, My wife is in receipt of High level DLA and has had to leave work on ill health with the proviso that she will never be able to work again. I have taken early retirement to look after her on a very small private pension. Our boiler is 30 years old, so I thought we would be ideal for the scheme, apparently not.
Very disappointed and will now have to fund it from our dwindling savings.0 -
^ weeks ago i signed up for the replacement boiler scheme with company GZ energy solutions. They came to my door and i agreed and signed to have assessment done 3/7/13 (yesterday) I took the day off work and waited in all day and nobody came. I called to confirm in the morning and was told soneone would be out between 1 and 3pm. I called back just a little after 5pm to be told they were sorry but it was someone else with the same surname in a different area who were due a visit that day? I was really upset and against my better judgement i arranged another call out today and my daughter stayed home all day waiting for call out and AGAIN nobody came. When i called they said someone did come and nobody answered the door to him? I told them to cancel the whole thing and hung up!!! I really need a new boiler as mine is really old and i pay most winters to have it repaired, just never have enough savings to replace it. I have 4 children and my grandaughter living at home and i thought this was too good to be true............... maybe it is?:mad:0

We got (not quite) free insulation in our loft last year and have found that our home is much colder than it is used to be! Caught the tail end of a programme on the tv saying something about the wrong type of insulation had been installed for that type of house and resulted in it being cold. AM trying to find out more information but cant remember what the programme was, and cant find out anything related to this on the internet. Can find plenty telling you about the different types but not about why a house would be cold after insulation has been installed.
Anyone know, or can guide me towards, where I can find this information or whether a cold house is in fact correct?
Thanks0 -

This calls out to everyone. I would suggest everybody observes their household temperature to precise measures, and compares it to their insulation to see if they can notice a correlation similar to the way OP has here. A life-changing potential money saving opportunity has been found.
I once again humbly thank you for sharing your ways, and I hope you can accept a 'Thanks' on your original post as a token of my appreciation (I'm sure you're recognition will go much further and I look forward to reading your names in the history books).
Over and out, got to go set up my thermometers and count each square centimetre of insulation and get this plotted on a graph of my own.0 -

Thanks
a FRIDGE has quite good insulation and that is cold
So perhaps you need to create heat - by opening the windows to warm the house up - remember to close them, when the desired temperature is reached....
Being serious - could be due to damp rather than actual temperature - or maybe it was particularly cold outside at the time ?
There is no way of telling actual relative temperature without measuring it and comparing to previous !!
Maybe your heating was set at a different level too ?0 -
Free Boilers? I don't think so, after spending nearly 4 hours enquiring after this offer from a list of suppliers. Even though I qualify on the face of it , it is as usual, the information they do not impart at the outset which is of more importance.
Despite my boiler being more than 12 years old,the reasons given for refusal ranged from: You have the boiler serviced every year so it is classed as a new boiler from then to Your boiler is not on our list of inefficient boilers so it does not qualify.
Perhaps a bit more information up front from sites such as this would save an awful lot of time and effort!!0
