Hi
I just had a British Gas guy doing a survey on my house and said that it can't be done by british gas as there is no access to 100% of my walls Terraced house with neighbours walls sticking out (my house is deeper in) and something about some line on the edge causing damp if they do it.
problem is I'm not on any benefits so what other options do I have?0 -
I take it that your wall s are not rendered ?
The BG "surveyor" may be worried that there is a solid brick that is longways on going through your cavity and the damp could soak along it and appear inside in the corner of the front rooms.
Alternatively there might be a cavity going right though to connect up with your neighbour's cavity and he cannot be bothered to install a roof to ground thing that looks like a 20 foot long giant bottle brush. It is to stop "your" insulation spilling into next door's cavity.
Did the surveyor drill a hole and let you look through a spy glass called an endoscope or a borescope to see along the inside of your walls ?

BG just been round. I thought mine was going to be a no because of loft access and because some of the loft is quite hard to access, but the man from Del Monte, he say, "yes".0

nope hi didn't do anything al he did is looked and it was max 5-10 min survey
He and/or his bosses have decided that they want a safe easy life and are going for the "quick wins".
If you are not paying, unfortunately you are not the customer, what ever the politicians might try to tell you.0 -
Where can I get cheap, preferably space blanket mess free, loft insulation from?
Google shows loads of old offer like buy 1 get 3 free but dated 2011
Rolls are now £15-20 each and not on offer :-0
I've been looking but as I work ft don't seem to be eligible for any assistance
Hoping someone knows of great solution for me!
Thanks!0 -
You missed your chance. The really high subsidies, paid for by the electricity companies and their customers, ran out at the end of 2012.
The "Green Deal" seems to be the name of the game now.
However I am not privy to discussions between the civil servants and the large generators of CO2 and the fear of the lights going out if we fail to save electricity.0 -
Over 70 or get benefits? Free insulation
That is what the MSE newsletter points to, but I cannot find the companies who are offering for over 70's, anybody know.
"Some suppliers give even more if you're on certain benefits, or over 70."
My 93 yr old Grandma gets state pension, attendance allowance but I think she is not entitled as her pension is not called credit? Am I right?0 -

Hi, we had BG do the home visit at the end of November we have no cavity wall insulation and we qualified for the free insulation, but we did need scaffolding over the garage which we said we would pay the extra if the quote came in over £450, the guy said it was in BG interest to get this sorted by Xmas. We waited until January and rang BG again for them to say we are still waiting for the scaffolders to confirm, we kept chasing every few weeks, then after i sent an email they decided to call us to say we needed to pay £150 towards the scaffolding which we agreed to this was 6 weeks ago, and have a guess what still nothing from them??? Has anyone else had this problem, if so how did you get around it, in this cold weather the heating has been alot and so our bills have been going up so my guess is BG are not keen to put the insulation in!0
