Sorry. Didn't mean to offend anyone. Had no idea it might be so long that a child was in nappies! I've never known a child that wasn't trained by 3 at the very latest.

My OH's family have a bladder issue that means the signal you get to wake you up to wee is dampened down when asleep. My mil at one point had 4-2 girls 2 boys age 2-12 all wetting (obviously older children don't do it every night). In the next generation most of the girls are trained by 7 or 8, but one of the lads had to take a spray drug at night until about 15 to stop him losing control.

My eldest had occasional issues (he might go 2 months then suddenly one wet night) until about 9. DD1 is 8 and just about there-still have a liner sheet on in case. DD2 is only 4 but trained early in the daytime and seems to be dry at night now as well-youngest is only 16 months and will already sit on the pot so we will see.

The DRs told us all it is not unusual at all and many children have issues at night till late-definately don't limit drink as dehydration irritates the bladder. But we were told avoid dark coloured drinks like blackcurrent/coke etc-mind you don't most of us limit these for little ones anyway lol, most little ones tend to have milk at night so this is more for older ones.

Also sleep walking and talking and night terrors runs in OH's family so some nights its chaos rofl.

Btw I use Aldi nappies and they are fab, better than any others we tried and cheap.

It's probably worth checking your son's willy is still pointing down when you go to bed. It took me three months of washing to work out my son was putting his hand down there and moving things around which was causing his nappies to 'leak'. Typical man!

  • Hi thanks for all your replies, we gave Huggies another go last night in the next size - still leaked!
Tonight we are trying tesco super dry and if they don't work a trip to Aldi at the weekend.
I know it is not the way I put the nappy on that is the problem, I think the main problem is a shirinking tummy by the morning as it always leaks out the top. He is always pointing down so that isn't the problem.
Another point that many of you have raised is the drink before bed. My Son doesn't tend to drink much in the morning but makes up for this in the afternoon/ teatime. I think this may need to be something that we try and change, will need to encourage more drinking early on.
Thanks again to all that have commented.
  • Sometimes with little boys they inevitably end up pointing skywards despite you positioning his little soldier.

Try going a size down for snugness.

  • have you considered buying a cloth nappy specifically designed for nighttime.
I use the same ones i use in the day but stuff them with bamboo pads which boost the absorbancy
  • Definately try Lidl's own brand nappies.

Cant tell you enough how good they are, my 6.5 month old son wees for england but these are great at night aswell as in the daytime.
  • I'm a Lidl convert.

With my boys I found Pampers & all own brand ones (mostly made by Pampers ime) were shockingly bad at keeping wee in, but Huggies weren't great at keeping the other in. WIth DD I had to use Huggies at night as Pampers just didn't soak the wee up but Pampers in the day as Huggies didn't keep in the poo. SOmeone on here recommended Lidl nappies, and I've been using them now for a few months and would never go back to anything else.

I've not had a single leak with them and at £5.18 for 50 half the price of all the others.

  • i will now only use pampers baby dry for my 2 and a half year old as everything else ive tried has leaked..would give lidl ones a try if i lived near one though, he is likely to be late potty training as he has a development delay and already wears a size 6 nappy

when i took my 6 year old to the docs about night time wetting(2/3 times a week) she said that is nothing to worry about..and neither was the fact he goes to toilet alot and doesnt seem to have much warning when he needs a wee and cant hold it for long..ironically since the visit to docs he now wets once a month maybe

The problem probably isn't the nappies then, it will be your little ones liquid intake which is causing all the wetness.
