Ah. I do have the Status-4-Evar add-on. I used to use Fission in FF 3 but it's not compatible with FF 8 and the developer isn't supporting it anymore so I was looking for something similar so that could be the cause of the problem. I'll go and do the safe mode thing now to check. x

okay, thanks Andrew, yes i do like seeing the 'status bar' (url link) in bottom left of browser. hidden by default then -- can it be enabled? odd though that FF disable it whilst Opera and Chrome etc . enable -- helpfully -- by default. another quirk of FF !lol.

edit: just to clarify, if it helps; add-ons i have installed are: adblock plus and download helper. that's it !

Just disabled Status-4-Evar and hovering over links is showing the address at the bottom.

Does anyone know how to keep that but have Status-4-Evar enabled? As I love the add-on.:o

To switch the Add-ons Bar on or off, click on the Firefox orange button and hover the mouse over 'Options'. A menu for turning on or off toolbars should appear. If the Menu Bar is showing (the orange button only appears if this is turned off) then the Add-ons Bar is found under 'View > Toolbars'. If you want to see the difference between the Add-ons Bar and the Status Bar, install 'Satus-4-Evar' and run Firefox with it enabled and disabled.
Error! - Keyboard not attached. Press any key to continue.

You're misunderstanding I think. Probably because of my poor explanation.:)
Not sure about Opera, but by default Firefox behaves exactly like Chrome. i.e. a pop up will appear when you hover over a link or when a page is loading.
Try turning off the add-on bar. You will see what I mean. It's a few seconds to turn it off or back on again, so there is no risk involved.

not sure what add-on bar does -- makes no difference this side.

this is my understanding: u hover mouse over a link and u get: popup balloon preview of post and u get the url link in bottom right of browser. this -- for me -- is visible in all -- FF, Chrome , Opera etc.

Re-enable Status-4-evar and then go to it's options page.

In Status > general > links> show links in, choose pop up or toolbar depending on your preference and maybe reduce the delay before showing links to zero.

It was on toolbar by default for me, so links were showing in the status bar.

    Hope that works.

    Yep, that sounds right.
I don't get the balloon, but that's probably just our set ups differing. I seem to remember a Windows option for that somewhere???

I agree. The add-on bar is pointless imho.

    No problem :)

It justifies me having Firefox installed. I don't use it for anything else these days.:rotfl:
