Hovering over links in Firefox 8

Hey everyone.
I updated to Firefox 8 yesterday but I seem to not have the ability for the link address to be at the bottom when I hover over links anymore.:o
I used to like being able to see the full address at the bottom when I hovered because it meant that I could see if links were dodgy etc.
Does anyone know if there is any way to get this back?

Thank you in advance.

It could be that one of the add-ons/extensions that you use is causing this.
Check by starting Firefox in safe mode this will disable any add-ons and run firefox in the default state. The mouse hover should work in safe mode. If so it's a matter of disabling your add-ons one at a time to find the guilty party.
Try the Google toolbar first!
Also check that your plugins are up to date.

Mozilla removed the status bar at the bottom in Firefox 4 for some reason, no idea why. Download the Status-4-Evar extension to bring it back. You may have to turn-off extension compatibility checking first though. You can do this like so:
1. Open a new tab and enter about:config in the address bar
2. Click OK on the warning that pops up
3. Right-click anywhere and select New -> Boolean
4. Enter "extensions.checkCompatibility.8.0" (without quotes) as the name and set it's Value as false
5. Close the tab and you should now be able to install/activate the extension + any other extensions that complain about being incompatible0 -

It looks like the Status Bar is back with version 8.0. I have removed the Status-4-Evar extension and still have a Status Bar.
Correction: It's the Add-on bar that I'm seeing.Error! - Keyboard not attached. Press any key to continue.0 -
same here. I've always had the status bar visible at bottom of page -- with version 4 and onwards; and is still here in version 8.BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

Isn't it what's called the 'Add-ons Bar that is showing? The two are similar but you don't get the URL showing in the Add-ons Bar when the mouse is hovered over a link. It comes up in separate box instead. There is no Download Progress Bar shown in the Add-ons Bar either. If you have a Status Bar, the URL is shown within that, also the Download Progress Bar. When the Status-4-Evar extension is installed, it turns the Add-ons Bar into the old style Status Bar.Error! - Keyboard not attached. Press any key to continue.0

You must have, or have had, an add-on that activated it. Adblock plus, for example, activates and appears in the add-on bar, but the icon can be dragged and dropped next to the search or address box.
The add-on bar can then be hidden.

I can't see anything obvious that explains Morticia's problem though.0 -
same here Andrew; i can't seem to find a way to enable/disable either; not that i mind as mine is enabled lol. maybe it's in Options/Settings ?
edit: oops, even i'm getting confused now lol ! yes, Andrew , I do have ad-block plus installed. does that mean by default the status bar is not viewable? that's odd.BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

What you are calling the status bar is actually the add-on bar.
By default it is hidden, and a pop up link preview is all you would see.
By installing Adblock you activated the add-on bar.
Right the blank area by the tabs and select customise, then drag the Adblock icon up to the top somewhere. I always put it at the far right next to the search box.
Right click the blank area again and untick the add-on bar.
That should get you back to default behaviour.
Unless you like it where it is of course.:D0
