Who are we kidding? We all know that jakes-mum will put it towards her debt as she already treated herself (that's how she ended up on here) hehe. £15 closer to the finish line.

OH and I just bought teacakes and made them at home instead of going to a coffee shop, very MSE. I tried to do some last minute shopping but kept thinking "this all just looks like junk". So only came home with 2 tops for my OH's step-dad, and some chocolate to replace the stuff I ate out of my nephews santa sack.

Thanks for all the well-wishes for my sister. Her contractions have eased for now, but I'm still betting it's going to be a xmas baby. She was at 4mins apart now it's 5-10mins. Although she is probably fibbing so as not to worry us all.

To be prepared for Xmas 2012 I am going to put £2/week minimum away each week and join the Tesco Christmas Savers club but only put the money into it in October just before you get paid the £6 bonus. Basically you can save up throughout the year in a savings account earning interest then the Tesco scheme gives you the equivalent of 6% interest as you get £6 for putting in £100. Like a fellow devious yorkshire lass said that you can open multiple tesco accounts and then save up more so that in October you can put all the money in and get 6% on each £100... The only draw back is that all the money is in Tesco vouchers but if like me, you mainly shop in Tesco anyway the it won't matter as it can go on Xmas food, Xmas pressies, fuel or your normal grocery bills...

    Mf0u-1098,
Sounds like an excellent plan :T
I have decided to scour the house for pennies as I'm feeling frustrated with having no money to pay anything off. .

I will report back with my findings.

By the way you are all doing really well.

    Hi parsniphead,

Good luck with your finds, every little helps :)

I have been busy sorting all accounts out and.... I have cut up all my credit cards and one debit card:j

I will cut up the other debit card after the remainder of direct debits and standing orders have come out of my account for December:T This will leave me with ONE debit card for my main bank account plus one cashpoint card which is for the account where my housekeeping money will be sent. I have also been deleting all my credit card details on amazon, PayPal etc so that I cannot automatically press pay:D

Next job on the list is to ring round and change all my direct debits over to the new account, plus set up the standing orders to pay my debts and money to be sent to the savings accounts to save for next Xmas, birthdays etc... Think I should be pretty much sorted for the new year then and all ready to go for this challenge.

I am waiting for all my statements to come in so I can get a more accurate starting figure but this might take a whole yet, so I am going to add up the figures from the last statements and go with that!

Will update with new total debt figure shortly:)

Well done Raspberrysauce for being so proactive. :T

Welcome to all the Newbies, let us your know thoughts and what plans you have in place to achieve debt-free-ness.

And I agree with Mf0u-1098, anybody who is managing to pay even a penny more than they normally would pay, especially at this time of year, is doing magnificently. :T:T:T
  • I am getting really nervous that the present that Dd really wants from Father Christmas hasnt arrived yet. I am hoping the courier will be here tomorrow because my tummy is doing flips thinking about it

    Hi Guys

#109 - Paid £400 toward my debt so at least I have made a start.

I only have PC access at lunchtime at the moment so I am only on page 13 of this thread - I will eventually catch up... I hope!

    Hi jakes-mum,

I would have said to really ask yourself "Is it a need or a want?", what item of clothing is it? Do you already have similar? Unless it has holes in it I would make do with what I had. If you spend the 15.00 rather than paying the money to debt then the item you've bought is actually costing more than 15.00 (because of the interest you didn't save).

In honesty, theres no such thing as want in my life. I have 2 pairs of jeans that fit, both with holes in, 1 top that fits, 1 pair of trainers and 3 zip up tops. All my clothes are 2 years old at least and I dont own anything that doesnt have holes in it. I will wear my bigger clothes with belts to put off buying clothes for myself (this is up to size 18 and im a size 10). The £15 isnt for 1 item of clothing, I would actually buy a few items if I could find them in the sale, or just spend up to £5 if it was for 1 top.

My debt isnt from me buying a load of frivolous things, a majority is from a week holiday I paid for, for DH when he was diagnosed with stress and near the stage of being signed off work. It was the lesser of 2 evils at the time.

    Hi jakes-mum,

Managing to go 2 years without buying any new clothes is a major achievement, very well done to you :T, and as you're looking to buy new as your clothes have holes in then all the more reason to replace them.

I hope I was the voice on your shoulder posing the question to you, need versus want, if you feel you truly need new clothes (and it sounds like you do) then you weren't really in a dilema.

Enjoy your new clothes, you deserve them :)
  • Well... not a very MSE day. Spent £25 on a DEAD BIRD... stupid turkey. And then all the trimmings, table presents, new baking dish, crackers & napkins, booooooze... ouch, lucky to see change from £100. Still, friends around tonight, so priceless in comparison.

yes you were lol, my main problem is trying to justify to myself spending money on myself. im always 'well they've got holes but im still wearing them so there must be a bit of life left in them' :rotfl: drives my husband mad but theres always something else that needs buying.

This money is actually money I earned from swagbucks which is the only reason im contemplating buying some clothes :rotfl:
